Join us on Friday 2 October for a wonderful evening of Music at the Museum, hosted by the Friends of Royston Museum in collaboration with Creative Royston.

It'll be a rare opportunity to enjoy the brilliant 3Folk. Plus, there'll be a performance of 'Fen Song', a ballad of the Fen and a beautiful haunting sequence of poetry and folk music inspired by the East Anglian landscape.

In 2009, Tim Brookes discovered many of the world’s minority alphabets were being driven out of existence, so he decided to try to save them - by teaching himself to carve and preserving them in beautiful woods.

The Bank Holidays Act 1871 officially became law on 25 May 1871. It gave four bank holidays in England, Wales and Ireland. In 1971, it was replaced by the Banking and Financial Dealings Act.

The 1871 Act designated the first, rather than the last, Monday in August as a bank holiday. This notice is from the Royston Crow in August 1872.

Did you know August 28 is Makaton Awareness Day?

Over 100,000 children and adults use Makaton symbols and signs, either as their main method of communication or as a way to support speech.

We've introduced Makaton symbols around the Museum and on our craft instructions to help make the Museum accessible for more people. Plus, earlier this year Emma completed Makaton training, thanks to BEEE Creative.

See the impressive 150-year-old Columbian printing press, which once printed the Royston Crow, in action at the Museum. Plus have a go at inking, placing and printing your own memento to take home.
