Tomorrow it will be exactly one year since the King John’s House café reopened in its new shopfront location on Church Street 🎉🥳The café has been a lifeline for us as we gear up for the post-fire restoration of our medieval hall, so thank you to all of our customers and supporters over the past twelve months!

To celebrate this one-year anniversary, for one day only on Saturday 29 August, we will be offering a free cup of tea or coffee with every slice of cake purchased in our café! Head on over and grab a tasty treat 🍰🫖☕

King John's Garden will closed tomorrow (Saturday 1 August) between 12pm-2pm for a private event. The cafe seating in the garden will still be available and accessed via the cafe.

King John's House is looking for everyday objects from the 1970s, 80s or 90s, and you might be able to help! 😄🕰️💾📻

We are putting together memory boxes to support people with dementia, and are searching for items from the not-too-distant past to help trigger memories and conversations.

While we have a lot of older items in our collections, we don't have much from more recent eras! So if you have any objects that represent everyday life from the 1970s, 80s or 90s which you would like to donate to our memory boxes, we'd love to hear from you! Get in touch at [email protected] or pop into our cafe.

It’s hard to believe that it’s been just over a month since our very first Friends of King John’s House Garden Party. We were delighted to welcome so many supporters, volunteers, members, and visitors for an afternoon of community, conversation, and celebration in the beautiful surroundings of King John’s House.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the event such a success. Your enthusiasm and support are invaluable in helping us preserve and promote this unique piece of local history for future generations.

Thank you to everyone who attended our first Medieval Day at King John's House last Saturday! 😄🏹🐴🚩

It was wonderful to see visitors enjoying the activities in our gardens, as experts HiowBeorht gave 'have a go' calligraphy and tablet weaving sessions, youngsters searched for medieval facts, wrote their names in Anglo-Saxon runes, tried brass rubbing and designed shields. While our Mayor Cllr Colin Burgess tried out the archery and pool noodle jousting that was on offer!

Long before the Three Lions appeared on England football shirts, the Three Lions were the royal emblem of England. Widely attributed to King Richard I (Richard the Lionheart) in the 12th century, the three golden lions became a symbol of courage, strength and royal authority, remaining part of England’s identity for over 800 years.
