Upcoming! Robertsbridge Arts Partnership Spotlight Exhibitions, showcasing the works of local artists over two weekends.

First up we have Karen Kyriakoudis on Saturday 5th & Sunday 6th of September, with a special Private View Event on Saturday 5th between 2-4pm.

Karen’s work combines portraiture with elements of figurative expressionism, her practice utilises acrylic paint alongside mixed media materials, including collage, charcoal, and pencil. Drawing deeply from her former background as a Narrative Therapist, Kyriakoudis explores how we imagine the lives of strangers while navigating her own inquiries into neurodivergence.

The exhibitions will be produced, curated and installed collaboratively between the blackShed team, RAP and each artist and is part of our drive to support professional development amongst local artists. Come along and support local creativity!

FIELD AND WOODLAND FOUND *last day tomorrow!!*

If you’ve not seen the beautiful work made during our Summer School with Martin Brockman back in July, tomorrow is your last day to do so! Gallery open between 10am & 4pm. Featuring sketchbook work, pigment experimentation, wood carving, clay sculptures, reference material and woodblock prints (amongst much more!) this is a beautiful showcase of what can happen when a group of people spend time trying things out, being outdoors and receptive to the materials around them -and of course a great teacher & setting!

If you’re interested in workshops like this, sign up to our mailing list, and keep an eye on our socials as we will be announcing more in the coming months! 🪲🍁🪵🍄

CLOSE UPs 👁️

We’re back after our short summer break and the gallery is open again. Field & Woodland Found continues until this Saturday, 22 August. Created during our five-day Summer School, the exhibition brings together work made through a process of looking, making and experimenting with materials found, or borrowed, from the landscape surrounding blackShed.

Come and take a closer look. Open Thursday to Saturday as usual, 11am–3pm.

What a beautiful evening. Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate the work created during our Field & Woodland Found Summer School. Eight very special participants were guided by Martin Brockman through a week of exploration and making, discovering new techniques and working with found materials, sustainably and responsibly gathered, or perhaps more appropriately, borrowed from the landscape surrounding blackShed.
It was such a lovely evening, and we’re incredibly proud of what has been achieved and of the remarkable body of work that emerged from those five days together. Field & Woodland Found, curated by Lorna Ough, continues until 22 August.

We’re now taking a short summer break. The gallery will be closed from Monday 10 August until Monday 17 August, reopening on Tuesday 18 August, when there will still be time to catch the exhibition before it closes.

Thank you to everyone who came along… attending events and sharing what we do with others all goes towards helping our work grow.

Last month, eight participants joined us for our first Field & Woodland Found Summer School, exploring Park Wood through geology, woodland history, natural pigments and traditional making techniques.

Every jar of pigment, every piece of bark and every sketch tells part of that story.

This Friday we’ll officially open the exhibition, and we can’t wait to share it with you!!

FIELD AND WOODLAND FOUND opens tomorrow, with a preview event next Friday 7th August starting at 6pm.

This is a special, one-off curated exhibition showcasing the work made during last week’s Summer School with Martin Brockman.

Featuring artwork made by Hannah Cleary, Ruby Freeman, Ruth Hallgarten, Jeremy Jago, Sue Langer, Sonia Plato, Liz Purkis and Emma Salmon, along with a snapshot of some of the tools and materials they were in dialogue with.

The exhibition runs until Saturday 22nd August, don’t miss your chance to pop in and experience the beautiful and varied results of this immersive course.

Watch this space for more workshops and courses, delving into traditional making, technique and natural materials; deepening the relationship we can have with the places and crafts that can so often be overlooked.

It has been a real pleasure to curate this show, and thanks to Martin Brockman, Alex Wiseman, Ruby Freeman and Jeremy Jago for their support in bringing it together (and of course Kenton!).
