AUB Art Collection and The Gallery

This week, we’ve been carefully preparing a work by Sir Frank Bowling, an AUB Honorary Fellow.

The work, which has been exhibited in the library and is on loan to the University from a private collector, has now been removed for a three-month exhibition at Hales Gallery, London, as part of Frieze.

Did you know that AUB has its own art collection?

AUB’s Art Collection comprises more than 800 works, including paintings, prints, drawings, photography and sculpture. It reflects the diverse creative practices of the AUB community and includes work by notable artists and designers such as Ian McKeever, Sir Peter Cook, Philip Townsend, Alan Kitching, Rob and Roberta Smith, Martyn Brewster, Lester Lee, and Marcel Lamb.

Alongside AUB’s own collection, The Gallery also cares for works on loan from the John & Barbara Weeks Private Collection, Tim Harrison, and Bournemouth & Poole College.

The Gallery is responsible for the curation, management, preservation, and care of these collections, with works displayed throughout the University.

2026 Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize

Congratulations to Yvonne Crossley, whose work "Octogenarian Dancer (2025)" was awarded the 2026 Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize.

At 83, the mid-Wales artist has created a playful, larger-than-life suspended figure from looped monofilament and wire, a celebration of movement, ageing and everything the body can still do.

“I’m in my 80s… and one of the things that I’m interested in is some kind of celebration of arriving at this point in life.”

As she puts it: “I’m still dancing.”

A beautiful reminder that art, imagination, and creativity can continue to evolve at every stage of life.

The Gallery & Foundation Diploma in Art and Design

This week, we welcomed our Freshers to campus, and there is an incredible buzz across AUB that we absolutely love!

Our students are the magic that makes AUB sparkle, bringing creativity, colour, and energy to every corner of campus.

Today, in The Gallery Café, our Foundation Diploma in Art and Design students took part in photography workshops, capturing images of the masks they created during last week’s mask-making sessions.

As they say, “only at an arts university can you find creativity in every corner”!

And while you’re here…

The Gallery Café is now serving a new menu!

A campus filled with creativity, colour and so much more.
