It's
This week I recorded this lovely Papal bulla of Pope Gregory X, dating to c. AD 1st September 1271 - 10th January 1276. The front of the bulla depicts the faces of Saints Peter and Paul with a cross between them. The reverse the name of the Pope. The papal bulla is a formal seal of office used by the Popes to stamp and authenticate documents produced by the papal curia. "Papal bulls came as two basic types, according to the contents of the document: Tituli, or "Letters of Grace", essentially granted or confirmed rights, conferred benefices or promulgated statutes. Mandamenta, or "Letters of Justice" were mandates that conveyed papal orders, prohibitions or injunctions.
This object was found in Rutland.

It's !
Next week we move over to the new PAS database. One of the last objects I recorded on the old database this lovely Roman plate brooch in the form of an axe. It retains lots of deep blue enamel and is complete, unlike most recorded brooches, this one retains its pin!

It's !
I recently recorded this Iron Age silver unit of the South Eastern region / Regni and Atrebates, dating to c. AD 10-40. The coin is attributed to Verica. The obverse shows a standing figure holding curved wand (lituus) and bunch of grapes, COM to left, MIF to right. The reverse, a bust right, VERI behind, CA in front. The coin was found all the way down in Hampshire and recorded with myself!

This , we’re highlighting a remarkable hoard of 2,830 late 3rd-century Roman coins uncovered at Tinwell, Rutland, during a metal-detecting rally back in 1999.

Recorded as Treasure by the Coroner, the hoard was later acquired thanks to support from Arts Council England/Victoria & Albert Museum Purchase Grant Fund and The Friends of Rutland County Museum.

You can see part of this incredible treasure on display here at the museum in our Roman gallery!

It's been a busy few weeks!
But I recently recorded this Middle Bronze Age copper-alloy tanged chisel, dating to c.1500 - 1150 BC.
This chisel is a bit more unusual and differs to those typically recorded on the database as it is 'palstave like'. This is the third "palstave like" tanged chisel recorded on the PAS database. It was found in Derbyshire!
