All of this, right below our art studio 🌳

Milestone Studios and Gallery is based in the centre of New Mills, in the Peak District, which means our building sits just above the incredible Torrs Riverside Park. Within a few minutes walk from our door you’ll find the River Goyt and the Millennium Walkway, with various footpaths and trails to explore.

If you’re attending a workshop at the studio, planning a trip to see an exhibition or to browse our zine library, we recommend making time for a wander into the Torrs as well.

Easier said than done sometimes though! When we’re busy working in the studio, we often forget to make the most of it. So, yesterday, whilst we began revamping the space in the studio, with new shelves to accommodate the growing collection, we made sure to stop for a short break down by the river.

We’ll share some update pics soon, but if you’d like a sneak peek at our new library corner, feel free to pop-in during our opening hours tomorrow!

We're looking for local folk tales, unique traditions, and strange sightings you can't quite explain.

Do you know a story you think needs to be documented, something passed down through your family or heard from a neighbour? Then join us next weekend to record it.

The Listening Stone will be popping up for one day only at Milestone Studios in New Mills on Saturday the 8th of August to collect your stories! 🪨

Free entry, any and all welcome. Pop-in from midday till 4pm.

Two prints SOLD today on the launch of 'Home is Where the Heart is', a Thought Press Project charity exhibition on display at the studio 💚

Today is the first day of 'Home is Where the Heart is', and we're open until 4pm!

The exhibition features over 50 printmakers, with proceeds from every sale donated to Centrepoint and Edible Rotherhithe 🌱

Our studio shop is also open as normal today, and we may even have the Columbian Press up and running later this afternoon of you fancy seeing it in action.

This week, we received an incredible delivery of prints from for our next exhibition at the studios 💚

All of these beautiful prints are now up in our gallery and ready for the opening of 'Home is Where the Heart is' tomorrow!

There's everything from lino to etching, screen print to cyanotype, with over 60 pieces to see. We also have a sale corner, with plenty of prints from previous years, all for £10.

The exhibition opens at Milestone at 10am this Saturday, entry is free, and all proceeds from print sales are being donated to and 🌱

We've been wanting to make these prints for a while..!

After we hung the last print of 'Home is Where the Heart is', our upcoming exhibition opening this Saturday, we got stuck into some printmaking.

And here are the results, the first batch of Milestone alphabet prints created in house on our 1830's Columbian Printing Press.

These three will be going to Haddon Hall tomorrow for the last weekend of The Torrs Collective pop-up exhibition in the gatehouse. Following that, we'll get some more printed and out for sale in the studio and on our website.

We're going to have a play around with the layout and try adding some decorative elements to future editions.

The New Mills Open Art Exhibition is back at Milestone Studios for its third year, and applications are now OPEN!

The deadline for entries is the 25th of August.

There’s no theme, and you can submit up to three pieces for free, with a nominal hanging fee payable only if your work is selected for the exhibition. We accept 2D work ready for hanging or 3D pieces such as sculpture, jewellery, or textiles.

Our two prizes are also available again this year! 🏆 Selected artists will be in the running for receiving our visitors' choice award (£50 cash) or our Studio Prize, a solo show at Milestone Studios in 2027.

New for this year: The New Mills Open will run for an additional month, from the 17th of September until the 31st of October 2026.

In the gallery we’re launching a new exhibition, Home is Where the Heart Is, a Thought Press Project charity exhibition featuring original prints from printmakers across the UK.

All proceeds from sales are split equally between Centrepoint and Edible Rotherhithe

The exhibition will be open every Thursday and Saturday throughout August.

On Sunday, 2nd of August, Vicki Jordan Art - printmaker is hosting a full‑day lino printing course where you'll create your own carvings and prints to take home. No experience is needed! Head to the link in Vicki's bio for booking 🔗

On the 14th of August, we’re running a fun, hands‑on letterpress taster session where you’ll print your own tote (and a tee if you bring one) on our 1830s Columbian Press. It’s a gentle introduction to traditional letterpress using antique wooden type.

On the 21st of August, join us for a relaxed monoprinting still‑life session. You’ll explore additive, reductive, and trace monoprinting, try our A2 Gunning Etching Press, and leave with a small stack of prints you made yourself. No experience needed.

Finally, on the 22nd of August, our Print Club is making its return!

Open for those with some printmaking knowledge. It’s a DIY session with access to the Columbian Press, the Gunning A2 Etching Press and gel plates. As it’s not a taught workshop, we recommend coming with a project in mind.
