Crab Museum Europe’s #1 Crab Museum and a satisfyingly baffling tourist attraction. Honestly, it’s quite hard to explain. Opening 2021.

You have been weighed, measured, and found to be slightly larger than the average. Suggesting that the environmental conditions in this particular quadrant are slightly different to last year's sample. Further research recommended.

We are happy to announce that we’re relinquishing control over the Museum’s 'Claw Learning Studio' to our friends at the MayDay Rooms.

Trees are Good: archives of environmental direct action and eco-defence - frames tactics of tree sitting within broader anti-extractivist and anti-capitalist struggles. Here in the UK, fights for urban space, squatting, rave and free-party culture entwined and collided with environmental struggles.

The installation at the museum highlights some of the novel and creative approaches taken to prevent the destruction of trees, forests and woodlands, with a particular emphasis on materials from the 90s onwards.

The exhibition will be running from the 16th of October until the 8th of November during museum opening hours.

On the 16th we will also be hosting a launch event with speakers from MayDay Rooms who will be bringing objects and artefacts from the archive to touch, smell, read and be absorbed by!

Head to the link below to reserve your free spot.

About MayDay Rooms:
If you’ve not heard of them they’re a physical space on London’s Fleet Street. They exist as a free archive, a community resource and safe haven for social movements, experimental and marginal cultures and their histories.

If you wondered what happens to the protest posters and placards from the last 50+ years - this is where they went.

With thousands of documents, pamphlets, zines, and countless hours of video footage, MayDay Rooms is the critical collection of protest movements from the UK and abroad. With all that in mind, we’re over the moon to host them at our humble Crab Museum.

Needless to say, we have exerted no curatorial control over the content, their words are their own, and the archive speaks for itself.

We hope you can join us across the exhibition’s run!

October is upon us!

As is this enormous crab. In this terrifying work by Nick Crimmen, titled 'The King of Atlantis', a giant crab can be seen laying waste to the deep-sea city of fable. For too long have the underwater citizens of Atlantis rejected crab, but in this portent of doom, we can see a clear consequences.

Will this crab eventually come on land to despoil terrestrial Earth?

Will deep-sea mining be the ecological disaster that breaks the crab's exoskeleton?

Or will this deeply unsettling and threatening image spur us into action? Lest we incur the wrath of the King of Atlantis...

If you want to feature on next year’s calendar, now is your chance! Or if you’re not feeling creative at the moment, feel free to forward this to your friends and family!

We are not looking to restrict your artistic and creative talents, but remember that after all, we are a family friendly museum! Read into that what you will!

The details:
- Submissions in landscape A4
- The higher res the better, but if you want to record it on a potato for artistic reasons, that is also fine
- Email submissions to: [email protected]

Submissions close October 31st at midnight! Late entries might be accepted, but we make no guarantees, lol

The submissions will be judged by Crab Museum staff, in the absence of unanimous decisions, we will ask a crab.

London's Science Museum is so dry, even the woodlice are boycotting. (This would be because they breathe through gills, on account of being crustaceans, not because of the institution's dodgy ties to arms and fossil fuels, but that too - probably)

With exactly one month until our 5th birthday party, we’re delighted to share a line-up of artists and musical professionals that you’ve probably never heard of.

However, we promise this cohort of Iberian crab enthusiasts will blow your mind! Now, you may be wondering why all of the performers are Spanish language speakers… Well…

We have spent the last five years exploring science, crabs, and dreaming of a different relationship with the natural world. This journey is perhaps most neatly summed up by the Spanish idiom “Pensando en la inmortalidad del cangrejo” - or - “Thinking about the immortality of the crab”.

This phrase describes daydreaming, but not in an idle sense. Our dreams can be constructive, and help build a better world, for crabs and non-crabs alike. In the end, we are all such stuff as dreams are made on.

And so to honour this concept, we present:

DJ FINAL BOSS
DJ Final Boss is the hard dance alter ego of LVL1, known for fast, playful and chaotic sets that move crab-like from 140 BPM into full-speed, full-send territory. Expect makina, happy hardcore, gabber, and early hardcore.

DJ Detweiler
Returning to the museum’s roster after a smash-hit set at our 2nd birthday - Detweiler, AKA Alfredo Sanchez Lopez is bringing their trademark unpredictable, and fun-loving musical silliness to our cold little island.

Professor Nura Catalan
From the Universidad del Archipiélago Centre for Touristic Studies: Balearic post-colonial ethno-musicologist Prof. Nura Catalan will explore and critique ‘Balearic Beat’, exploring how colonialism has shaped the perception of Balearic culture.

Akrog
One of the longest-standing DJs in Zaragoza’s music scene. Akrog is an award-winning DJ with over 25 years experience behind the decks as part of Spain’s oldest junglist crew, Fokin Massive. A veteran turntablist of truly high regard.

Josemi Online
A graphic humourist, screenwriter, DJ and teacher, Josemi Online has developed a superior ability to download MP3 files at 128 kbps from the sketchiest websites. Josemi is also the current holder of the World Saying “Olé!” Competition.

Join us in dreaming of a good time!
