Cadogan Gallery Cadogan is an independent art gallery showing emerging, established and critically acclaimed artists. South Kensington, London. Founded 1980

Cadogan Gallery is an independent, family-run art gallery based in South Kensington, London. Founded by Christopher Burness in 1980, the gallery has worked closely with generations of collectors and established and critically acclaimed artists for forty years. After a few years in Pont Street, the gallery moved close to Draycott Avenue, SW3, where it remained for 20 years gaining prominence, royal patronage and developing its catalogue of artists. In 2007 Cadogan Contemporary moved to the Old Brompton Road in South Kensington. Since joining in 2014, Freddie Burness has built on the heritage and strong foundations of the gallery, adding a new international perspective to its distinctive program. With an artist focussed approach and a clear aesthetic identity, the gallery represents both long established artists that have evolved with us since the gallery's founding, as well as a new generation of emerging artists. Our regular programme of exhibitions in London is complemented by the recent launch of a new temporary exhibition space in Hampshire in 2021. This has provided an opportunity to pursue curate large-scale projects and installations.

“Geometry is the language of the universe. Nothing here is arbitrary. Every measurement is either a multiple or a factor of eight. Long edges, short edges, diagonals, everything relates back to that number.

Eight represents infinity, cycle, eternity. The entire structure takes the form of an octagon.

The artwork also follows the geometry already present in the ground, a pattern that has been there for centuries. The space and the sculpture merge into one. They are completely different, yet they somehow belong together.”

Save the date - We are pleased to announce “Crossing”, an upcoming solo exhibition by Sam Lock in our Milan gallery. The exhibition will present a new body of work by the British artist and will run from 28 October through 26 November.

“These works are at essence grids,” Lock says, “contiguous sheets of reclaimed bookpaper creating boundaries, borders, edges, walls at the point they meet.  An ordering or measuring system, an authoritative presence that defines the surface of the paintings and the tone of their voice. The edges and borders created here though are not impenetrable; on closer inspection they are an apparition; full of holes and gaps.”
