The closing event in the New Dutch Writing series takes place this Wednesday, with Rodaan al Galidi, who’ll be reading and in conversation with his translator Jonathan Reeder. The event is chaired by jourmalist and broadcaster Rosie Goldsmith.

This FREE event is in partnership with the National Centre for Writing as part of their Meet The World series, and we think this will be a really special event to round off the series.

!! TONIGHT !!

Dutch author Tommy Wieringa in conversation
with translator Sam Garrett about his recently launched book The Blessed Rita. Chaired by journalist and critic Suzi Feay.

The event will be live streamed on You Tube via the following link:

As part of Meet The World, New Dutch Writing is teaming up with The National Centre for Writing for a series of conversations between writers and their translators.

Set in a remote farming district of the Netherlands, Tommy Wieringa’s The Blessed Rita centers on a group of misfits left behind by globalisation, unable to escape past tragedies and uncertain about their place in society’s future.

In light of the most recent developments around the Coronavirus (COVID-19) we have now postponed our March and April events. The safety and well-being of our visitors, staff and volunteers is our utmost priority.
Below an overview of the events:

Chernobyl: Poetic Decay which was due to take place last Thursday has been postponed until September.

Other postponed events are:

Bach Cantata - 26 April

Live Brexit Podcast at The Bolton - ‪28 March‬

King's Day 2020 - ‪25 April‬

The organising parties, The Dutch Church, The Dutch Centre, Koning Willem Fonds and Vereniging Neerlandia have decided to postpone this year's King's Day event, but aim to paint the town orange this summer. Not just as a delayed celebration of King Willem-Alexander's birthday, but also to acknowledge and toast to us all coming together again.

We will keep you informed of any updates via our newsletter and also we suggest you keep an eye on our social media and website for further announcements and information.

Look after yourselves, stay safe and healthy everyone.

Thank you for your ongoing support,
The Dutch Centre

Like the rest of the country, we have been closely following the situation around the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Unfortunately we've had to take the difficult decision to postpone our upcoming event, Chernobyl: Poetic Decay, which was scheduled for Thursday 19th March, until September. All other events are currently planned to go ahead, but do keep an eye on our website and social media for possible cancellations or postponing of events.

Below you can read our approach for dealing with the coronavirus (COVID-19). Please get in touch if you have any question or concerns.

For the Dutch Centre the safety and well-being of our visitors and staff is our utmost priority.

We are carefully following the official guidance from Professor Chris Whitty, the Chief Medical Officer for England and Chief Medical Adviser to the UK Government, who is himself an epidemiologist.

We have taken appropriate actions to safeguard hygiene in line with the WHO basic protective measures. This means there will be hand sanitizer and ample opportunities for good hand washing.

We will give updates on the situation in our weekly newsletter, our website, and on social media.

If we have to postpone events, ticketholders will be informed via the email that was submitted at the moment of purchase. The new date will be communicated as soon as the event has been rescheduled. In case you are not able to attend the event on the new date, you ticket will be refunded.

If we have to cancel events, we will publicize this immediately on our website and social media. If you’re planning to visit on of our events, please look at our website and social media for the latest information.

In the event of a cancellation, ticketholders will be informed via email and purchased tickets will be refunded. The email address that was submitted at the moment of purchase will be used for said communications. If you chose not to attend an event that is going ahead, you are not eligible for a refund.

Thank you for your on going support.

Please join the Keyboard Trust and friends for a special recital (FREE) by the young and outstandingly talented Dutch pianist, Camiel Boomsma on FRIDAY, 8 FEBRUARY 2019 at St Mary's, Perivale (London): CAMIEL BOOMSMA Friday, 8 February, 7.30 pm St Mary’s, Perivale Lane, Perivale, Middlesex, UB6 8SS. In his playing he emphasises the musical story. Boomsma has performed at many major national and international venues including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Teatro la Fenice in Venice, De Doelen concert hall in Rotterdam, De Philharmonie in Haarlem - and has also played in the Harbin Grand Theater, Tianjin Grand Theatre, Shanghai City Theater, and Chengdu Concert Hall as part of an extensive solo recital tour. Hello, we would like to draw your attention to an event we are organising in London on Nov. 9th, as part of the ESRC Festival of Social Sciences. The event focuses on the native language of professionals who mainly use a foreign language in their daily working environment. In such cases, trying to return to the native language in these contexts can bring unexpected problems and challenges, and this can have a range of negative implications. We will attempt to showcase some of these situations and provide hands-on advice on how to deal with them. Attendance at the event is free, more information is available at https://languageattrition.org/workshop2018/. Please see the attached information for further details. We would appreciate if you could disseminate this information as widely as possible. Best wishes, Dr. Tugba Karayayla on behalf of Prof. Monika S. Schmid
