Guests were guided by Sculpture in the City Artist, Elisa Artesero, to create a pocket-sized piece of Light Art, a sunset to gift and hold in the hand. 🌇

Ai Weiwei’s Roots: Palace is part of a series created in collaboration with Brazilian artisans and communities by moulding sculptures from the roots and trunks of endangered Pequi Vinagreiro trees.

Resembling fantastical or mythical creatures, the cast iron forms with their rusted patina speak to ancient cultures and to humanity’s earliest tools for felling and shaping wood.

Crafted using the ‘lost wax’ technique, the work represents traditional, bygone ways of life that have been usurped by industrialisation and modernisation, illustrating how progress can come at the expense of cultural and societal wellbeing.

Have you ever seen a sculpture cast in margarine? 🧈

Looping Loop was created in a mould made entirely of pastry margarine. This mould was then filled with dry stone aggregate and bonded with liquid plastic, creating a surface referred to as bonded stone.

Artist Andrew Sabin is a pioneer of margarine casting and bonded stone. His sculptures offer a thoughtful, emotional examination of geological processes, organic forms, and material qualities.

Ida Ekblad explores the medium of paint in her multidisciplinary practice 🎨

For her sculpture, 'BOOK OF BOREDOM', the artist employs the same approach as her paintings: cutting, uniting and assembling shapes and forms, before hand painting onto bronze-cast structures as though they were canvases, defying the medium’s supposed demand for flatness.

What can you see in these rock formations?

Before coming to Fenchurch Street, these sculptures used to be blocks of Statuario marble sitting in a stone yard in Pietrasanta.

Listen to Daniel Silver explain the journey of the rocks and how they came to life in the City.
