Burdett explores the radical permeability of the human form, positioning the body as a site of constant ecological and mythic flux. Drawing on the dual Aphrodites of Plato’s Symposium, the crystalline, smooth and geometric Venus Coelestis and the organic, fecund and transforming Venus Naturalis’, Burdett’s paintings inhabit the interstitial where the figure is neither fixed nor self-contained, but mutable, porous, and inseparable from the natural world.
