•The Canal Centre
is administered by Linlithgow Union Canal Society (LUCS), by volunteer society members, and operates boat trips from Manse Road Basin every weekend from Easter until the end of September with two boats from 2pm.
•We also have our lovely tea room to come visit too, open to anyone with an offering of tea, coffee, cake & ice cream in the summer. To sit in or takeaway.
•During July to mid-August, the Centre is open weekdays for the town trips running.
•You can cruise the calm and peaceful canal to the Avon Aqueduct in comfort on board the "St Michael" or journey the town stretch on "Victoria", a replica of a Victorian steam packet boat.

On Sunday 13th November we received the sad news of the passing of our dear friend Barbara Braithwaite MBE.
Barbara had served the Deacons Court and the Riding of the Marches with loyalty, passion and a smile for over four decades. Her excitement for upholding and passing on the traditions of the town to younger generations was evident in all she did both with the Deacons Court and other local organisations, namely LUCS.
Barbara was the first woman elected as a Deacon onto the Deacons Court, since then serving in many roles including as Press Secretary, and host at the Brig on Marches morning welcoming the crowds with a clootie dumpling alongside a dram and one of her famed poems.
Barbara was rewarded with an MBE for services to the Community of Linlithgow in 2010 and for many, Barbara has become synonymous with the heart of the Marches over the years.
She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.

Great wee bit coverage for The Floating Stage this morning
“A new floating stage is planned for the canals between Glasgow and Edinburgh. https://t.co/wRjaRTBMQE”
Are you looking for ticket cancellations..
Something new for communities on the Union and F&C canals.....
The Floating Stage is the chance to create a legacy following the success of Flotilla200 for the 200th anniversary of the opening of Scotland’s Union & Caledonian Canals. Volunteer led, The Floating Stage aims to create a unique entertainment venue to serve entertainers and communities alike. The proposed venue could be moored at various locations along the Lowland Canals for use for concerts, community festivals, theatre productions, and much more! As a not-for-profit organisation, our primary goal is to serve Scotland’s communities along the waterways from Falkirk to Edinburgh.
The venue could be used by:
• Performers – from amateur to professional, entertainers of all kinds would have access to the stage to perform. This would be a great opportunity for performers and artists struggling to get a performance space.
• Communities – with access to the venue, local communities will be able to host waterside events and community festivals to promote community engagement.
• Organisations – charities, wellbeing groups and existing canal societies could use the venue to promote awareness events and performances.
Depending on the organisations using the facility, The Floating Stage may be provided for free or a nominal amount.

Update on Forth & Clyde water levels from Scottish Canals...
Good afternoon everyone
Our operations team is continuing to monitor water levels, in order to utilise remaining resource levels effectively. Whilst there has been a period of wet weather at the weekend, the levels have not risen enough to remove restrictions.
Restrictions will continue to apply between Lock 3 to Lock 16 in Falkirk and Lock 21 to 38 in Bowling.
The Union Canal remains unaffected, and The Falkirk Wheel will continue to operate as normal.
A further update will be issued on Monday 12th September.

Emergency Restrictions: Forth & Clyde Canal.
As of 4pm on Thursday 1 September we are temporarily suspending all boat movements on the Forth & Clyde Canal between Lock 16 and Grangemouth in the East and Lock 21 and Bowling in the West.
These unplanned, emergency restrictions, are a result of an extended period of dry weather and a major sand bank at Hillend Reservoir impeding access to water reserves. Hillhead Reservoir is an essential part of managing water levels the Forth & Clyde Canal. In order to maintain water in the canal, for as long as possible, protecting the asset, wildlife and property, we have taken the decision to suspend boat movements on the east and west flights immediately. Forth & Clyde Canal
The Union Canal is unaffected, and The Falkirk Wheel will continue to operate as normal for now.
Our team are closely monitoring the situation, including the future rain forecast, and will provide a further update on Monday 5 September.
We would like to thank you for your understanding at this time.
Some people don't know that Linlithgow Union Canal Society is 100% run by volunteers ...

Linlithgow Union Canal Society (LUCS), continues to attract a large amount of visitors to the town, and yet it is run entirely by volunteers. But you don’t have to be a boat fanatic to get involved. Our helpers include Museum Attendants / Curators, Gardeners, Tea Room Helpers, Painters, Electricians, Joiners, Admin staff, Web Designers, Marketing , Media and PR personnel and the many other activities needed to keep the Canal Centre at the forefront of Scotland’s (and Linlithgow’s) favourite family destinations and tourist trail. But if you want to help with the boats, then that’s OK too !!!
You name it, and we could probably use your skills or help you expand your interests or hobbies, and you can put in as much or as little time as you wish.
If you would like to help in any way, why not drop us an email, or come along to the canal basin on a Wednesday or Saturday morning when you will be able to discuss how you can get involved with one of our active members, or just enjoy a cup of coffee around our cosy log fire.
You will be made very welcome
