•Come and visit the Linlithgow Canal Centre.

•We’re on the Union Canal in Linlithgow, centrally based in the town (18 miles from Edinburgh) birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots.

•The Edinburgh & Glasgow Union Canal is 31½ miles [50 km] long from Edinburgh to Falkirk and is linked to the Forth & Clyde Canal at Falkirk by the new Falkirk Wheel to continue the journey to Glasgow.

•The Canal Centre

is administered by Linlithgow Union Canal Society (LUCS), by volunteer society members, and operates boat trips from Manse Road Basin every weekend from Easter until the end of September with two boats from 2pm.

•We also have our lovely tea room to come visit too, open to anyone with an offering of tea, coffee, cake & ice cream in the summer. To sit in or takeaway.

•During July to mid-August, the Centre is open weekdays for the town trips running.

•You can cruise the calm and peaceful canal to the Avon Aqueduct in comfort on board the "St Michael" or journey the town stretch on "Victoria", a replica of a Victorian steam packet boat.

•Charters and private bookings can be arranged at other times. ‘Leamington’ is a self drive boat available for day hire and the larger 40 seater boats can also be chartered for larger parties (2 of our volunteers, driver & crew).

•The Canal Museum has a sales counter with a short audio-visual presentation. Thank you & we look forward to seeing you :)

♦️💬LUCS - FAQ’s💬♦️

💬Q: When are you open?
A: We open Seasonally for Tearoom use, museum & public boat trips with special events throughout the year including Halloween & Santa Cruises etc.
Our Private Charters & Self Drive Hire, Room Hire are available all year round subject to weather & use during events.

💬Q: Do you have disabled access?
A: LUCS welcomes visitors in wheelchairs, and those with restricted mobility.
We have parking for Blue Badge holders, & our Tea Room, Museum, Classroom and Toilets are all wheelchair accessible.
Our boats, however, cannot take wheelchairs, and their steep access steps present problems for some people with limited mobility.
Our Crews will do all they safely can to accommodate all passengers, but access cannot be guaranteed, & is ultimately at the discretion of the boat’s Skipper, who is responsible for the safety of all on board.

💬Q: How long are your boat trips?
A: Our Aqueduct Cruise is approx 2.5hrs long. Our Town Trip is approx 25 mins long.
Our Electric Dinghies can be hired for half an hour to an hour long sessions.

💬Q: How much is it?
A: Our updated prices are displayed on our website or at the Basin at point of sale. Tearoom/Reception.

💬Q: How do we find you and is there Parking?
A: We are up on Manse Road just a short walk up the hill from the Train Station.
There is paid Parking in the town centre at Kirkgate & Water Yett.
We’d advise parking in these allocated visitor parking with a just short walk getting a good view of our small town.

💬Q: Do we have to book ahead?
A: We’d strongly advise booking for Aqueduct Trips in advance to avoid disappointment especially to accommodate family’s or larger groups. The boat fills up fast at weekends however if there is space YES we can accommodate walk-ins too.

💬Q: Are you dog friendly.
A: Yes, we are well behaved dog friendly. Well behaved humans too lol.

On Sunday 13th November we received the sad news of the passing of our dear friend Barbara Braithwaite MBE.
Barbara had served the Deacons Court and the Riding of the Marches with loyalty, passion and a smile for over four decades. Her excitement for upholding and passing on the traditions of the town to younger generations was evident in all she did both with the Deacons Court and other local organisations, namely LUCS.
Barbara was the first woman elected as a Deacon onto the Deacons Court, since then serving in many roles including as Press Secretary, and host at the Brig on Marches morning welcoming the crowds with a clootie dumpling alongside a dram and one of her famed poems.
Barbara was rewarded with an MBE for services to the Community of Linlithgow in 2010 and for many, Barbara has become synonymous with the heart of the Marches over the years.

She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.

Would you like to help ...

Linlithgow Union Canal Society (LUCS), continues to attract a large amount of visitors to the town, and yet it is run entirely by volunteers. But you don’t have to be a boat fanatic to get involved. Our helpers include Museum Attendants / Curators, Gardeners, Tea Room Helpers, Painters, Electricians, Joiners, Admin staff, Web Designers, Marketing , Media and PR personnel and the many other activities needed to keep the Canal Centre at the forefront of Scotland’s (and Linlithgow’s) favourite family destinations and tourist trail. But if you want to help with the boats, then that’s OK too !!!

You name it, and we could probably use your skills or help you expand your interests or hobbies, and you can put in as much or as little time as you wish.

If you would like to help in any way, why not drop us an email, or come along to the canal basin on a Wednesday or Saturday morning when you will be able to discuss how you can get involved with one of our active members, or just enjoy a cup of coffee around our cosy log fire.

You will be made very welcome

Today, Bridge 15 at Ratho was renamed Rusack's Bridge after the late Ronnie Rusack MBE. It was a wonderful event with lots of stories being told. Great to see so many people there! We then sailed Panacea under Rusack's Bridge to enjoy the afternoon sunshine. 🌞 Special thanks to Lowland Canals Volunteer Group / Scottish Waterways for All & Scottish Canals for organising this event. Thanks also the Ratho Community Council for their very kind donation towards the event in memory of Ronnie and thanks to Seagull Trust for successfully renaming the bridge. ❤️ Scottish Canals Seagull Trust Cruises - Ratho Linlithgow Canal Centre The Bridge 19-40 Union Canal Society
