Santa's done .... "My Linlithgow" used this photo of LUCS's Santa Flotilla on their Twitter page to say that Santa had completed his deliveries and was now away home for a well earned rest.

And so say all of us, but we have kept our Christmas Appeal open for anyone who still wishes to support our two nominated charities ~ Linlithgow Young Persons Project (LYPP) and River Kids. You can donate to our Christmas Appeal here .... www.justgiving.com/fundraising/lucs-santa

Due to Covid 19 restrictions, this year the members of Linlithgow Union Canal Society are unable to hold the ever-popular Santa’s Grotto and Boat Trips at Manse Road Basin.

However, LUCS members still wished to make their annual Christmas contribution to the families and children of the Linlithgow and West Lothian communities and have produced their very own Christmas Video ~ Santa (and his mischievous elves)

As you will see in the video, we are also raising funds for two very special local charities ~ Linlithgow Young Peoples Project, and River Kids from Livingston.

Now sit back, and enjoy the antics of Santa (and his mischievous elves) at .... https://youtu.be/EIBODY06mKY

I have to admit that our narrowboat holiday didn’t get off to the best of starts. The idea of four nights cruising along one of the most scenic stretches of the Union Canal from the massive Falkirk Wheel towards Edinburgh had got everyone excited.

The Bridge 19-40 Union Canal Society

Although this year's Volunteer Awards are postponed due to Coronavirus Lock down, the awards web site is still open to post Volunteering Opportunities, Future Events, and Case Studies. See the latest case study by Bridge 19-40 Canal Society here ..

Volunteers have a huge role to play in a variety of roles across the canal network. So it's sad to hear that the 2020 annual volunteer awards co-ordinated by the Scottish Waterways for All group have become yet another casualty of Covid-19.
But although this year's awards have been cancelled, there is still the opportuity to submit case studies of volunteer projects via the new Scottish Canals Volunteer Awards website.
Bridge 19-40 has submitted their recent Bridges project which you can see here:

Would you like to help ...

Linlithgow Union Canal Society (LUCS), continues to attract a large amount of visitors to the town, and yet it is run entirely by volunteers. But you don’t have to be a boat fanatic to get involved. Our helpers include Museum Attendants / Curators, Gardeners, Tea Room Helpers, Painters, Electricians, Joiners, Admin staff, Web Designers, Marketing , Media and PR personnel and the many other activities needed to keep the Canal Centre at the forefront of Scotland’s (and Linlithgow’s) favourite family destinations and tourist trail. But if you want to help with the boats, then that’s OK too !!!

You name it, and we could probably use your skills or help you expand your interests or hobbies, and you can put in as much or as little time as you wish.

If you would like to help in any way, why not drop us an email, or come along to the canal basin on a Wednesday or Saturday morning when you will be able to discuss how you can get involved with one of our active members, or just enjoy a cup of coffee around our cosy log fire.

You will be made very welcome

The funny thing about many electric boats is that most people don't really notice them, because they don't look odd at all. They are just out there every day, doing their workaday job. Quietly, economically, and cleanly. I really enjoyed meeting some of the folk at the Linlithgow Canal Centre (Scotland) this summer, and going for a ride in one of their sturdy little electric day hireboats, as a guest of the unsung but cheery voluntary society that helps keep the canal itself alive: http://www.lucs.org.uk/
I have one adult and two child tickets for this sold out Halloween cruise on Sat 26th Oct at 2pm. Looking to swap for one adult and two child tixs for the 10am cruise on the same day. Please pm me.
Thanks a lot for hosting the Veg Boat at the weekend. We had a great day and your volunteers were friendly and helpful as always. There is a wee video on the Narrowboat Farm page, or on youtube:

We hired the St Magdalene to celebrate a significant birthday. The cruise appeals to all ages. The crew, Alistair and Anne were helpful, friendly and knowledgeable and made the day extra-special for us all. Thank you.
