King Richard III Visitor Centre

We're delighted to share the work of De Montfort University student Eva Winston-Hart, whose passion for the story of King Richard III has inspired her final-year Design Craft project.

Eva has created a ceramic teapot incorporating traditional-style embroidery elements, drawing inspiration from the King's history and legacy. Her work will be exhibited at the De Montfort University Degree Show on Wednesday 24 June, from 4pm–6pm.

We'd like to thank Eva for sharing her beautiful work with us and wish her every success with her exhibition.

June 11th 1456 - Birth of Anne Neville at Warwick Castle, the youngest daughter of the Earl of Warwick (the Kingmaker), Duchess of Gloucester and Queen consort to Richard III, she was previously the Princess of Wales after marrying Edward of Westminster, son & heir of Henry VI. June 10th 1483 Richard writes to the City of York as the Duke of Gloucester, Brother and Uncle of Kings, protector, defender, great Chamberlain, Constable and Admiral of England, asking for support against a plot he believes is being organised by the Queen and her blood against him.

On this day in 1443 - the birth of Lady Margaret Beaufort, she carried the train for Queen Anne at her Coronation with Richard III but just a couple of years later her only son, Henry Tudor became Henry VII at the Battle of Bosworth, she also lived to see her grandson crowned Henry VIII.

On this day in 1495 Cecily Neville dies aged 80 at Berkhamsted Castle in Hertfordshire. She was the mother of two Kings of England, Edward IV and Richard III, and every monarch since apart from Henry VII is a descendant of hers.

On this day in 1541 - Margaret Pole the last Plantagenet was executed at the Tower Of London aged 67 by Henry VIII after being held in the Tower since 1538, and was beatified as a Martyr on the 29th of December 1886 by Pope Leo XIII
