We return with our daily countdown of ‘Friends Facts’ in celebration of 70 years of the Friend of Kettering Art Gallery & Museum and the reopening of the Alfred East Gallery.

#9. ‘Golden Youth’ is a large-scale oil on canvas by Thomas Cooper Gotch, whose work is held in major galleries across the UK, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Gotch considered it one of his finest works. The Friends were able to secure the loan and restoration of the piece, bringing it to Gotch’s home town of Kettering for the first time.

Interested in becoming a Friend of Kettering Art Gallery & Museum? Join us on Friend’s Day at the newly reopened Alfred East Gallery. It’s a chance to meet existing Friends, discover how our support benefits the gallery and learn about all the wonderful reasons to join us.

Yesterday, we welcomed Amber and James from Love Kettering into the Gallery for a sneak peek at our opening exhibition, Faces & Places.

We sat in front of the cameras and microphones for the next episode of their podcast. An excellent opportunity to chat about Opening Day, Northamptonshire Day at AEG, and our plans for the future of Kettering's art gallery.

We're so excited! As soon as the episode is ready, we'll share it here 😊

Exciting news for Kettering's museum 😊

📢FUNDING NEWS📢

We have successfully secured a grant for £196,896 from The National Lottery Heritage Fund 😊 This will help to safeguard the Museum's collection during closure and develop a plan for its future. We will also begin recruiting for a Collections Manager very soon!

With the building's structural issues, this is a really positive step forward for Kettering's museum.

Here at AEG, we're firm believers in the benefits of art to your health. It really does boost your wellbeing!

So it was great to pop along to Kettering Arts Centre yesterday for a creative health networking event. Organised by BrightSparks Arts and Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, it was a great opportunity to promote our arts programme and meet teachers, artists, and NHS staff.

We've got so much to offer - FREE exhibitions, artist-led workshops (coming soon!), and our learning programme too. Lots of discussions and lots to collaborate on 😊

How old are these chairs?🤔

We can't be sure exactly, but we think they've been in the Gallery since the very early days. After many decades, they were looking tired and worn.

A massive thank you to John Reed & Son Upholsterers and Furniture Restorers for stepping in to help. They reupholstered the seats and gave them a new lease of life. We're loving the new colour💕

Countless behinds have rested in these chairs over the years, but none more glamourous than our Hazel's. We're busy preparing for Opening Day and sometimes need a rest!

Precious cargo! Easy does it 😬

For the first time ever in Kettering, Thomas Cooper Gotch's "Golden Youth" arrives at his hometown gallery. 120 years old and lovingly restored, you're in for a treat.

See it in all its glory from 24th October.
