Did you know the Museum also welcomes Group visits to Priory Heath outside of our usual opening times? (subject to volunteer availability)

Are you a school teacher needing to give your pupils some history lessons in life in Ipswich from 1900s to 1980s? Does your curriculum need a visit to somewhere that showcases things actually made in Ipswich?

Are you a group leader who's members would enjoy a trip down memory lane and a wander round over 100 exhibits of various shapes and sizes?

Dont forget! Tomorrow is our Mamods and Miniatures day with visiting miniature steam engines and tabletop engines on display.

This extra mini event has normal admission prices on the door - open from 1100-1600.

Special Events in September and October

We still have some special events to come this year alongside our usual Sunday opening until the usual Season finale Christmas Cracker in December

📆 Sunday 27th September 1100-1600 Mamods and Miniatures
At present we have 8 steam miniatures, 2 battery operated steam lorry replicas and an IC Scammel Lorry registered, plus 4 displays of Mamods / similar.
Normal Museum admission prices apply to this day.

📆 Saturday 3rd October 1100-1600 Classic Vehicles Day
The Museum Yard will be full of classic cars and light commercials. With free bus rides, its one of our only Saturday opening days for those who cant get to us on a Sunday.

📆 Saturday 31st October 1100-1600 Halloween at the Ipswich Transport Museum
A new event for us, come and see the Museum decorated in spoooooooky decorations, join us on a pumpkin hunt and more bus rides! Fancy dress optional!

Its !

Now with the latest AI craze of putting yourself back in the 80s, we dont need AI here - here is the Museum building back in April 1985 when it was still an operational bus depot. Our own ADX1 lurks in the background whilst a new Dennis Dominator bus 82 is awaiting service at Priory Heath. Notice the prominent Borough Crest and the "Nottingham" style single door on the new arrival.

Of course 82 became Maggie the Community Playbus and is now lovingly kept by some of the team following retirement. The Playbus team still use the front of the Museum on a Monday morning as part of their brilliant work around the town bringing play to the children of the town (and perhaps some budding bus enthusiasts!)

Why not come and visit one of Ipswich's hidden gems! Over 150 years of Transport and Engineering heritage all under one roof come rain or shine. Sit in an old bus, ring the fire engine bell, marvel at what was once made in Ipswich and grab a cuppa in our Tearoom.
