Nine years ago we packed up our little Brighton house and moved to Ilfracombe.

Two girls, a hound, hundreds of records and a stupid amount of stuff.

We swapped the city for the sea, unpacked the decks before pretty much anything else and started again.

Some of that furniture has since found its way into our holiday apartments. Some of the art is still exactly where we first put it.

We’re still collecting, but how I miss our Brighton Sunday morning car boot ritual, digging for treasure.

And if you like our style, you’ll feel right at home at Bank and Paramount Apartments. Same love of colour, vintage finds and things that are a bit different.

After all, we don’t do ordinary.

Anyone else absolutely hopeless at getting rid of stuff?

Tag that friend who gets it.

A whole bunch of us are getting together and we are doing something special!

COOL YULE BAZAAR
10 December | 6-9pm Belgrave Promenade, Ilfracombe

Independent businesses, loads of makers, stalls, food, mulled w**e, carol singers and a whole lot of Christmas cheer.

We’re taking over the promenade for the evening, and everyone’s invited.

We’ve got some super cool stallholders lined up, but we’ll be revealing more about them soon.

So whether you’re local or fancy a trip to Ilfracombe, get the date in your diary.

This one’s going to be a good one!

Give us a shout below if you are coming.

As always we need your support to get the word out by tagging those pals, saving and sharing this post and best of all by reposting.

Let’s make sure no one misses out.

A big thank you to the lovely people at The Fabled Thread for sending us 20 copies of their gorgeous Almanac!

We love how much the aesthetic feels very Bank, and the colour palette works so well with our branding. It’s very much on brand for us, which makes these Almanacs feel right at home here.

Can’t wait to share them at Makers Social, hear what everyone thinks and hopefully see some Fabled Thread creations appearing around our big table soon.

Because that’s what Makers Social is all about. Making stuff, swapping ideas, chatting creative s**t, eating flapjacks and spending a couple of hours with people who get it.

Bring whatever you’re working on. Half-finished projects very welcome!

Next up: Tuesday 20th October, 7–9pm.
£10 at Bank, Ilfracombe.

Come for the flapjacks, chats and creativity. Leave with an Almanac. (If you’re quick!)

First up, meet Sara from Blackout in Brighton’s North Laine. The best shop on the planet. Only fitting they got a mention.

I used to work there and honestly, BEST JOB EVER. A glorious explosion of kitsch, colour, Day of the Dead and all sorts of wonderful stuff. If you’re ever in Brighton, GO. You won’t regret it.

Back to the mosaics…

We’re going in for the hat trick!

I handed my bank over to two Steves and a David for three days.

What could possibly go wrong?

Turns out, absolutely nothing.

They turned Bank into a pop-up darkroom as part of Ilfracombe Photography Festival, and it was brilliant.

Film, cameras, chemicals, printing and a whole load of knowledge being shared.

And that was just at Bank!

The whole town was buzzing with exhibitions, talks, workshops, screenings and loads of amazing photography.

Hats off to everyone involved in pulling off such a fantastic festival. I absolutely loved being part of it.

And a massive thank you to the two Steves and David (who stood in on the Saturday) for taking over BANK.

Same time next year?

We’ve got very cool neighbours.

Not long after we opened a bank, my neighbours opened Where We Create, a co-work space here in Ilfracombe.

As part of Ilfracombe photography festival last weekend they had a bloke who turned up and built a camera the size of a room.

That bloke was Brendan Barry, and the camera was a giant camera obscura. It was so big he developed the photographs inside it. So much fun to have a go.

Then there were talks from some seriously talented people who’ve worked in photography for decades. Loved hearing their stories, how they all know each other and how their careers have crossed over the years.

And then there was a party. With DJs and the most incredible styling.

Penny and Lee, you’re creating such a buzz in our small town. Love having you as neighbours.

If you are lonely working from home and want to be part of this, check them out.

It’s not just Where We Create.

It’s where cool things happen.

I opened a bank.
Now we’re making old school photographs.

Nathan Rutherford brought wet plate photography to our old bank as part of Ilfracombe Photography Festival.

I deliberately didn’t look into the process beforehand. I wanted to go in knowing absolutely nothing.

A lot of technical chemical magic with metal plates and an old camera. So cool.

Huge thanks to Nathan for such a brilliant, informative workshop. Loved every minute.

I’ll share Mr Bank’s portrait as soon as I get my hands on it.
