FREE Social Media Basics for Creatives Workshop next week.

This session is an introduction to social media for creatives hosted by Antosh, Project Manager of We Make Wycombe.

The session will give you a brief introduction into the different media channels we use at We Make Wycombe and how to use them to both raise your profile and promote events.

This session will focus on:
* When and why we use which social media platforms.
* How to optimise your profile
* Sustainable posting routine: how often to post, what to post and how to engage with your community
Plus a brief covering of additional platforms you can use to raise your profile get event bookings including Art Rabbit and Ticketsource.

There will be time after for discussion and questions.

Calling all creatives across Wycombe!

Join us for the next We Make Wycombe Creative Exchange — an informal evening of conversation, creativity and connection, featuring very special guest Sarah P Corbett — award-winning activist, Ashoka Fellow, author and founder of the global Craftivist Collective.

Sarah will introduce her unique approach to activism, ‘Gentle Protest’ — using craft and creativity to change hearts, minds, policies and laws, while challenging what activism can look like.

Then it’s your turn to get involved as you’ll take part in a gentle craftivism immersive workshop, taking your first steps on your own craftivist journey and connect with fellow creatives in a completely different way.

We’ll finish with a Q&A and reflection with Sarah — and everyone will leave with their own piece of craftivism, plus some surprise goodies!

The plan for the evening...

6.15–6.35pm — Sarah’s talk on the craftivism movement
6.35–7.30pm — Craftivism activity whilst you network and chat
7.30–8pm — Questions and Reflection

As part of First Fridays in High Wycombe town centre we’re opening up a little later (5pm-7pm) for our brand new exhibition ‘Making Our Mark’, an exhibition showcasing the art of Social Link members.

Come along and say hi and then enjoy the other bits and pieces happening on the high street including a great band.

New Exhibition Opening This Weekend

We’re excited to invite you to a brand new exhibition at the We Make Wycombe Hub this weekend!

Artist Lynne D Jones has collaborated with Social Link to curate an exhibition showcasing the creative work of Social Link members.

The exhibition celebrates learning disabled and neurodiverse voices, featuring a vibrant collection of textiles, diamond art, photography, painting, collage, drawing and zines.

Bookings are now open for our first ever Skills Toolbox session. A new format of FREE lunchtime learning sessions for local creatives.

The first one is Project Development and Fundraising 101 with Lallie Davis, director of Buckinghamshire Culture

This session is an intro to grant funding and turning your idea into a project that can secure funding. We will cover the different elements that a project needs, where to look for funding and give some tips on how to approach writing applications and where to go for help.

Bring your lunch and get valuable insights to help you develop your creative career.

What is the Wycombe Community Arts Exhibition?

It is a multi-venue art exhibition for Wycombe artists. Each artist can submit one piece of art and it will be exhibited at one of the venues listed.

Calling local artists!

This autumn Wycombe Arts Centre and We Make Wycombe are joining forces for the Wycombe Community Arts Exhibition, a town-wide exhibition celebrating local artists.

We’re inviting artists from across the High Wycombe community to submit one piece of artwork each. Selected works will be curated and displayed across multiple venues around town.

Open 7th-22nd November
Artist submissions close 21st September

FREE film screening + Q&A

On Tuesday 18th August, We Make Wycombe will be hosting a free evening screening of Bison Hill, an award winning film by local artist Derek Ogbourne.

Here’s some info on the film…

‘The sun brings life, brings respiration, brings a measured breath of being me.’

Multi-award winning Bison Hill, where no bison roams anymore, now replaced by the primal embodiment of the protagonist, immerses the viewer in a series of enigmatic acts as a man carries a cart to the top of a hill, while the setting sun slips in blazing glory beyond the films end.

A Poetic metaphysical thriller, Bison Hill treats us to the all-pervading physicality, breathless, unrelenting struggle which distinguish most of Derek Ogbourne’s films.

Nature, and the artifice of the film’s illusion of creation, as the protagonist caresses his created landscape with sensuality and tenderness, tending after it with his demigod hand from above; a piercing array of spikes, needles, pins, stakes of all sizes that puncture and demarcate with concerted effort and determination to drive forcefully into the sacred ground; the portrayal of the romantic, bucolic, Vaughan Williams, Powell and Pressburger picturesque version of the English countryside which contrasts to the protagonist’s endeavour, as well as the essential elements that bring life and form to a drawing (light, mass, and the act of measuring) which underpin this narrative suffused by ecstasy, labour, and mystery, are all threads that make for gripping viewing.
