Beautiful Glass Panels by Sue Thorne.

Sue works from her home studio in the Brecon Beacons.

She uses many different glass techniques to achieve the effect she desires taking her inspiration from the mountain environment and the natural world in which she walks. Sue experiments with ways to ‘draw and paint’ in glass. She paints on glass using traditional stained glass methods and also uses this method in a more contemporary way, fusing glass to bring a range of colour into her work. It is by combining different ways of working with glass that the unexpected can happen, providing endless stimulation and excitement.

On a quiet afternoon in the gallery, Guy had a play with a Dishy Lady, by Helen Martino, and rings, by Poppy Dandiya. I rather like the result 😄

Vibrant, free, semi abstract oils or mixed media on canvas by Niki Thomas. Niki’s paintings are enigmatic. They have a certain mystery about them and they reward repeated viewing. These are just three from a new collection of work recently delivered to the gallery.

These fabulous sculptures are by ceramic artist Clair Young.

Clair grew up in North Wales, surrounded by animals and countryside which inspired her love of nature and she has enjoyed art since childhood. Initially she worked in watercolours taking on commissions and exhibiting in art galleries and exhibitions including the North Wales Open Exhibition and The Lowry.

She studied Graphic Design at Wrexham University and recently returned there for a taster course in hand building in clay and was instantly hooked. From there, she continued working with clay and developing her beautiful style, with her experience with watercolours coming through on the glazes she has developed.

Clair, who still lives in North Wales, draws her inspiration from the Welsh countryside and translates her observations of animals into her ceramic sculptures.

We particularly love the cheeky, happy looking fox. 🦊 He appears to not have a care in the world !

Haven’t posted for some time so to get going here are some images of the striking necklaces by Anne Farag, .

Etched silver with semi precious stones. Each one individual, to be loved and worn. Anne has always been interested in cultures which tend to use a lot of pattern and decoration, ancient or modern. As a result these influences, together with her background of Egyptian and Swedish parents, reflect in her work.

Had a lovely peaceful walk to the Warren with the gallery girls this morning before everyone started to appear.

It is the last day of the Hay Festival. It has been an amazing ten days in Hay. Two festivals going on over the first weekend, plus Fair in the Square. A Cider Fest in the town on the second Saturday, and a heatwave 🥵😂 The town has been buzzing.

So lovely to chat to returning customers and meet so many new ones who appreciate the creativity and talent of all our artists and makers. Thank you to all who have visited us, supported the town and its incredible variety of independent businesses.

Such a beautiful morning walk today crossing over the border from England into Wales and then back again before opening up the gallery. Everywhere is looking so green and lush and the bird song so loud. Love this time of year.

We are delighted to have some fabulous paintings in from Dai David.

His paintings range from the small “Beach Book”, oil on paper, at 15x15cm to “Evening Flock” , oil on board, at 70x130cm. These and other paintings by Dai are all available to view in the gallery, and if you are unable to visit take a look at them on our website.

Dai was born in South Wales and trained at the Royal College as well as studying in Florence, Italy. His garden studio overlooks the Brecon Beacons, and his love of landscape is plain to see in his art. He also loves portraying people, especially on the beautiful beaches of Wales.

Dai is also a trained opera singer and pianist. As a professional musician (known as David Vaughan-Lewis) he gives private tuition in piano, singing and music theory and regularly holds sell-out charity concerts.

He regularly exhibits in London, Greece and Rome, and his work is in private collections in many countries.

“My aim is to reveal both the beauty and delight experienced when enjoying a light-filled scene. With my use of colour and application of paint I seek to express the very essence of an atmosphere… be it an idyllic moment of solitude or a joyous, sun-drenched beachscape.”
