Our current exhibition is proving very popular. It runs until November 21st in the Terry Sutton Museum. Here's what the exhibition team say about their work.

Weaving the Senses exhibition celebrates the coming together of visually impaired and sighted artist-makers to showcase a creative and immersive demonstration of sound, tactile and visual art. It has been curated to be inclusive of both visually impaired and sighted visitors.
Weaving the Senses Collective comprises of members of Sight Support Calderdale and sighted artists who have been exploring the heritage of moquette weaving in Calderdale through collaborative art sessions and visits to Calderdale Industrial Museum. The group connected through the history of weaving transport fabrics using dialogue, loom sounds, moquette pattern books, and historical accounts of mill workers. The artworks featured capture their experiences using methods such as drawing to sound, mono-printing, transfer printing, digital printing, laser cutting, embroidery, creative writing, and sound documentary.

Calderdale Industrial Museum is open every Saturday and also Thursdays in the school holidays 10am to 4pm, with last admission at 3pm. Admission is £7.50 for adults, £6 for concessions, with free entry for children. Find out more about visiting the museum at https://calderdaleindustrial.co.uk/.
Our café is open serving a selection of light lunches, snacks and drinks, where you can take a break during your visit. Our shop has an interesting range of souvenirs from local artists and craftspeople.

If you want to warm up this Saturday, we will be running our stationary steam engines in the Power Gallery from 12 noon until 3pm.

And in the cafe we are switching to our winter menu, so soup is back, with artisan sourdough bread from Soul Bakery, along with our usual sandwiches, cakes and drinks. Remember we are licensed, so you can have a glass of w**e or a b**r with your lunch. Last orders in the cafe is at 3.45pm

Its time for our next Wednesday Talk. On 21st October, David Millichope will be giving a talk entitled 'The Halifax War Machine, how Halifax geared up for war' in the Halifax Room at the museum.

Doors open at 7pm and the talk starts at 7.30pm. Entry is free for members and £5 for non members. Please use the main entrance in the yard. We will be serving tea, coffee and biscuits for a donation of £1.

We are open this Saturday 19th September as part of Heritage Open Days. Entry is free for this day and we are running our steam engines.

What a great start to the new season of Wednesday talks this week. Philip Hellawell never disappoints so it's always great to welcome him back.

Our next talk is on 21st October at the museum. David Millichope, one of our own team, is talking about The Halifax War Machine - How industry geared up for war. As David is very knowledgeable about military and local history this should be interesting and informative.

As always doors open at 7pm and the talk starts at 7.30pm. The talks are free to members and £5 to non-members. Refreshments are available for a donation of £1.

As Heritage Open Days launches today, we look forward to welcoming new and old visitors to the museum. Tomorrow 12th September we are open as normal, with the usual entrance charges. The cafe is very short staffed so please bear with us as we do our best to serve you.

Next Saturday 19th is our day to celebrate Heritage Open Days. The museum is open free of charge to all, but since we rely totally on our open day income to maintain and develop the museum, we welcome any donations you can give. This can be done at reception of in any of the collection boxes around the museum. The cafe will be open offering our usual range of sandwiches, snacks cakes and drinks.

We are also running the steam engines on 19th and the staff will be dressed up in period costume.

Come and join us and learn about the industrial history of Calderdale.

Both days the museum is open 10am - 4pm with last entry at 3pm. Steam will run from 12 - 3pm on 19th.

Our new season of Wednesday Talks begins next week on September 9th, with the popular and entertaining Philip Hellawell returning to share his knowledge of our local railways. This time he is looking at Sowerby Bridge: Calderdale's Transport Hub.

The talk is in the Halifax Room at the museum, with doors opening at 7pm and the talk starting at 7.30pm. As always there will be refreshments for a donation of £1.
The talk is free to members and £5 to non-members.
