Ceri Pritchard will be joining us in the gallery on Saturday 5 September from 11:00 to 15:00 as part of his solo exhibition here in the gallery based on ’That Future Thing’.

If you enjoy Surrealism, patterns and abstract form or are just a bit curious then I highly recommend a visit. This is a wonderfully thought-provoking exhibition and great for the imagination. Ceri grew up in the art world in Wales, and this is a documentation of the artist and the time in which he lives. These artworks are highly collectable, and the exhibition has been curated with a focus on the artist’s time living in France, Mexico and Wales that spans the past 22 years.

Pop in the gallery anytime for some informal discussions in a relaxed setting and see Ceri working on his latest painting. We can’t wait!

Ceri Pritchard lived in Mexico for a few years before returning to Wales in 2017. These paintings are from that time.

This exhibition includes paintings from Ceri’s time living in France, Mexico and Wales.

The exhibition continues through to the 17 September and the gallery is open every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 10:30 to 16:30.

The fires continue on the Rhinogydd which started on Sunday 12th July. It is now spreading to the East considerably and has been taking out farmland, ancient woodland and native habitats. This is in a national park area in one of the last remaining wilderness areas in the UK that is steeped in ancient history dating back to the neolithic age.

Fire crews have been on the ground since the start but this is a remote area and access to helicopters and aerial support has been restricted and prioritised elsewhere across the UK despite local MPs efforts. There are also lakes in the vicinity to access water to help efforts.

It is urgent that this area receives aerial support to put the fire out. Then there needs to be new policy and infrastructure in place to adapt to the changing climate. In this ongoing heat there should be a total fire ban outside designated areas. The weather forecast suggests there may be a drop of rain here next Sunday. Thats too far away and local fire crews have been going for 9 days now as well as attending other fires across North Wales.

Despite the fact that this fire was started by a wild camper all roads on the bigger issues here lead back to Westminster in my humble opinion. Time for change and improved services across Wales as well as better protection of our national parks and ancient woodland. Together we can ensure this never happens again! I'm gutted to see this landscape destroyed.

Provide aerial support for firefighters in the Rhinogydd wildfire

It is with sadness that I share the news that Valerie Land has sadly passed away following a battle with leukaemia at just 70 years old. Valerie was one of the founding artists of Oriel Tŷ Meirion and we first connected in the spring of 2018 a few months before the gallery opened. Valerie was very supportive, realistic, and trusted my bold slightly crazy idea to open an art space.

Over the years Valerie has showcased her work in the gallery in several exhibitions. She was a popular painter and was particularly known for depicting scenes that often reflected the mood and spirit of a place. We both shared a particular love of trees, ancient landmarks, seascapes, and a touch of surrealism. Her paintings captured the imagination with a beautiful ethereal quality that reflected nature and our landscape leaving a sense of calm and inner peace. Valerie’s subject matter, texture, colour palette and playful curiosity always led the viewer into a magical, contemplative and much needed rest from the everyday world.

I’m so grateful to Valerie for all the encouragement and positivity over the years and her wonderful paintings that were enjoyed by many. Valerie’s absence will be a huge loss to the arts community, her friends and family. It is warming to know that her paintings will leave a legacy for her to be remembered fondly!

To anyone that can attend her funeral there will be a public service at St. Cynon’s Church, Fairbourne, on Wednesday 29th July at 12 noon. Following the service, all are warmly invited to join the family at Penrhyn Bar and Grill to share memories. No flowers. Donations, if desired, in memory of Valerie will be gratefully received towards Leukaemia UK.
