LOCAL HISTORY – POWER SUPPLY:

An electricity sub-station was built circa 1955 as the village had grown and the supply by cable from Daventry could not cope with the peak demand, with the voltage dropping very considerably.

LOCAL HISTORY – INFO APPEAL:

Hi Everyone,

We have received an appeal for information regarding Albert Gardner, the individual in this photo.

Can anyone tell us if the Albert Gardner in the photo, which we originally posted online on 26th September 2025, is the Albert Leonard Gardner who, with his wife Leonora Mary Gardner, purchased Farndale, 51 Hinton Road, Woodford Halse, in 1964?

Many thanks.

LOCAL HISTORY FACT:

It is said that at a Parish Council meeting in September 1909, complaint was made that letting the Green near the Fleur de Lys was causing a nuisance, and the Council decided to stop letting the Green to stallholders, and to ask the District Council to widen the road at that point.

LOCAL HISTORY FACT:

In 1951, a detached house was built at the corner of Church Street and Parsons Street.

There was still quite a gap between this house and the earlier semi-detached houses, as the nearest of these had been built on a plot with a large side garden.
