Our phonebox came from the site of RAF Merston, standing next to The Walnut Tree, Pub & Restaurant. where it witnessed the devastation caused by an exploding bomb from a Hawker Typhoon in 1943. Brought to the museum in 2023 and lovingly restored by volunteer Paul Evans, the phonebox now stands as a memorial to Flying Officer Geoffrey Waugh, who was killed in the explosion. The answer was Jeffrey Quill & Sammy Wrothe, as stated on our website. Alex Henshaw did not sign the door and that has been confirmed by the gentleman who project managed the construction of the aircraft, Bill Williams. You can also see the signatures in the photo of the door.

Our artwork of the week is an oil on canvas piece, signed Trevor Lay ‘96.

The artwork features a SPAD S.XIII, a French World War One single seat biplane.
The aircraft reached a top speed of 135mph making it one of the fastest used during the war and 8,472 were manufactured also making it one of the most made planes of the war.
