Spent a lovely morning with my 7 year old Grandson teaching him to paint with watercolours, what a brilliant job he did! very proud of him. Looks like he might follow in Grandad's footsteps 😀

Come and join Artist John Piper for an introduction to drawing with charcoal.
This expressive and striking medium is perfect for capturing mood and light, its very forgiving and organic which means that your work can evolve and change as it’s applied. After a short introduction to the medium and how it’s used, step by step we will create a striking image of a lighthouse wrestling against a stormy sea to guide home those weary sailors.
Full tuition and one to one coaching throughout and drawn on a large A2 sheet you will be taking home an impressive piece of artwork.

Spent a bit of quality art time post eye operation doing some watercolours on a sheet of paper I made by hand from old demo paintings. It has an amazing texture and really adds character to any painting. This one will be framed up for sale in the near future.

Nice day painting pelargoniums at RHS Garden Rosemoor to coincide with the pelargonium & geranium show. Great results on a challenging subject, some slightly unfinished but nice nevertheless.
I am back at Rosemoor on the 14th Nov for a day making hand painted Christmas cards so come along and join me then for more watercolours.

If you’ve attended any of my workshops or courses and wondered where all my demonstration paintings end up this is the answer, I put them through a shredder, pulp with a blender then use my home made mould and deckle to make new sheets of hand made paper 😀
Here’s 5 sheets of A3 size of varying weights drying out. First sheet out (top right) is a nice heavyweight and subsequent sheets get lighter as the pulp gets used up.

Nice morning today with a local art group drawing portraits with charcoal. Brilliant medium for this, correctable and moveable and great for creating tones and light.
