Norfolk Fire Museum's collection is now housed near Long Stratton after many years at the old RAF Co

Norfolk Fire Museum grew out of the old Norfolk Fire Service Historical and Preservation Society and still has very close links with Norfolk Fire & Rescue Service. It is though, a charity and all work is carried out by volunteers. The basis of the collection at present is Local Authority Fire Brigades. This is now being extended to celebrate all fire fighting in Norfolk and we would appreciate rec

eiving any artifacts or information relating to RAF, MOD or Works Fire Brigades that operated in Norfolk. We have now obtained a lease on a unit in Market Gates Shopping Centre in Gt Yarmouth and are busy setting up displays with a view to opening early in 2021.

Some more images that have recently been scanned in from the collection of Bruce Hogg. Featured is a line up of principal officers outside Whitegates headquarters, a presentation by Mr Hogg to Cromer crew in 1987 and a fabulous image of the crew at Hingham although this is undated.

We will be there with the Mini fire engine giving rides and with the car fire that still needs putting out plus we are sure to bring something old.Anyone who has a old emergency vehicle is welcome to come along just let us know.

We were sent this photograph by Gavin Philip this week of his aunt who worked on control room at Whitegates during the second world war. This photo was taken in 1945 and shows Gavin's great aunt Vera , with colleagues. Vera can be seen back row second from the right. if anyone recognises anyone else please comment below.

We will be at the Frontline Festival tomorrow at The Walks in Kings Lynn with some of our older appliances. Its a free event so if passing pop by and say hello!

What a great couple of days with the Cromer fire crew at the towns carnival as you can see with the photos we were over run with junior firefighters attempting to extinguish our car fire, unfortunately this has now been on fire for 8 years and still smoking. Our water recycling was in operation over the 2 days keeping our use to a minimum. The mini fire engine was with us as well and took part in the parade with its very young crew and they were ready to deal with any incident including maybe flooding thankfully it did stop raining.

Today marks the 85th anniversary of the National Fire Service (NFS)
The National Fire Service brought together all fire brigades up and down the country. Brigades ran by the local authorities, works brigades and the National Fire Service were brough together to run under one service.
In Norfolk, this saw all brigades making up Fire Force 13 , which also covered Suffolk. Fire Force saw its headquarters being based at Whitegates in Hethersett, with the are being divided into 4 Divisions, A.B.C and D. A division.
A Division Headquarters was based at Bethel Street Fire Station in Norwich,
B Division Headquarters was based Middlegate Street Fire Station in Great Yarmouth.
C Division Headquarters was based at Bond Street Fire Station in Ipswich.
D Division Headquarters was based at Common Staithes Quay Fire Station in Kings Lynn.
Each station was then assigned an individual number which was displayed on the sides of appliances.
The NFS remained in operation until 1 April 1948 when control of the fire service was retuned to the local authority.
Photo 1 show a crew from 13D2Y1, Austin Street Kings Lynn.
Photo 2 shows a D division crew wit their ATV appliance. Unfortunately the station code is partially obscured.
Photo 3 shows the funeral for Sam Bussey who was killed during a raid on Norwich on 27 April 1942.
Photo 4 shows a line up at Norwich, 13A1Z.
Photo 5 shows a hook ladder drill on the tower at Norwich.
Photos 6 and 7 show a parade of B Division crews on a snowy day, 11 January 1942 on Great Yarmouth sea front.

We recently received a kind donation of memorabilia from the family of former CFO Bruce Hogg who sadly passed away last year. Included in the donation were lots of photographs and slides which are being scanned.

This photo, taken on the main stairwell of Whitegates shows Mr Hogg , centre front row. The image looks likely to be from a long service medal presentation however is undated.

Names and further information welcomed.

With the very warm summer, there has been a large increase in the number of fires in the open all across the country with many requiring a large and lengthy response from crews. Well done all who are tackling these fires.

These type of fires have been a common occurrence for many years and todays post shows a crew from Cromer at a fire on Weybourne Plantation on 10 August 1935. A lot has changed in 91 years. The crew is led by Captain Theo Randall (seen centre of picture).

We think this image was from a postcard printed at the time however we can not be sure of that. It also features in the Cromer Fire Brigade Book by Jamie Edghill and Keith Entwistle.
