ArT Toy Newsletter 189: What makes people feel part of the same community?
That question appears in Papyrus: The Invention of Books in the Ancient World, by Irene Vallejo.
She writes about Ancient Rome, especially the third century, when Emperor Caracalla granted citizenship to almost all free inhabitants of the empire.
But the real question is not only legal.
How did people from distant places begin to recognize themselves as part of the same world?
Through words.
Ideas.
Myths.
Books.
Shared stories.
And that made us think about ArT Toys.
Because a collection can also create community. An ArT Toy can connect an artist and a collector. A painting can open a conversation in a gallery. A print can make two strangers discover they understand the same signal.
