Balazsi Gallery invites you, as part of Mallorca PhotoFest, to the presentation of the book “For a Fool Such as I (me),” by Jack Burton.

Thursday, August 6th, 7:30 pm, Auditori / Es Baluard Museu.

The book brings together ten years of Jack Burton’s photographic practice, which combines photography and collage, and is organized as “this non-exhaustive alphabet,” in the words of Esmeralda Gómez Galera, author of the editorial concept and texts. As she explains in the introductory text, the chapters “propose a lexicon” that can be read in any order, leaving room for detour and digression.

El libro reúne diez años de práctica fotográfica de Jack Burton, que combina fotografía y collage, y se organiza como “este abecedario no exhaustivo”, en palabras de Esmeralda Gómez Galera, autora del concepto editorial y los textos. Como explica ella misma en el texto introductorio, los capítulos “proponen un léxico” que puede leerse en cualquier orden, dejando espacio al desvío y la digresión.

Meet the artist Jack Burton.
Tomorrow we share “In Conversation with Jack Burton”, a video recorded during “Cynic’s Bedtime”, his solo exhibition at the gallery last year — and next Thursday, July 6th, we present “For a fool such as I(me)”, his first artist book, at the Auditori of Es Baluard Museum, at 7:30pm.

Jack Burton is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice unfolds as a continuous dialogue between photography, sculpture and collage. His work interrogates the intentionality of fictitious settings which, through materiality, alter our perception of what we understand as “reality” — chaotic, colorful compositions that navigate both the celebration and critique of the visual excesses of contemporary life. His recent exhibitions include shows at Eigen + Art in Leipzig, 10n in Brussels, and Superdeals in Brussels.

Mañana compartiremos “In Conversation with Jack Burton”, un video grabado durante “Cynic’s Bedtime”, su exposición individual en la galería el año pasado, y el próximo jueves, 6 de julio, presentamos “For a fool such as I(me)”, su primer libro de artista, en el Auditori de Es Baluard Museum, a las 19:30h.

Jack Burton es un artista multidisciplinar cuya práctica se despliega como un diálogo continuo entre la fotografía, la escultura y el collage. Su trabajo interroga la intencionalidad de los escenarios ficticios que construye, y cómo estos, a través de la materialidad, alteran nuestra percepción de lo que entendemos por “realidad”; composiciones caóticas y coloridas que navegan entre la celebración y la crítica de los excesos visuales que definen la vida contemporánea. Entre sus exposiciones recientes se incluyen muestras en Eigen + Art (Leipzig), 10n (Bruselas) y Superdeals (Bruselas).

Last May, “Tenir Llei” opened at Fundació Arranz-Bravo in Barcelona. A group exhibition by Román Fabré, Ian Soler Bradley and Albert Riera, three artists connected to L’Hospitalet who proposed a contemporary approach to the figure and legacy of Eduard Arranz-Bravo. More than a formal or stylistic reading, the project centred on a deeper affinity: the artist’s attitude towards creation.

The result was an expanded installation combining painting, object and space, reactivating gestures from Arranz-Bravo’s trajectory, from his interventions in public space to the playful and experimental dimension of his work.

Román Fabré and Ian Soler Bradley will present a duo project within the framework of Nit de l’Art 26 in spaces 1 and 2 of the gallery, curated by Esmeralda Gómez Galera under the title “Garbage worth being kept.”

El pasado mes de mayo se inauguró “Tenir Llei” en la Fundació Arranz-Bravo de Barcelona. Una exposición colectiva de Román Fabré, Ian Soler Bradley y Albert Riera, tres artistas vinculados a L’Hospitalet que propusieron una aproximación contemporánea a la figura y legado de Eduard Arranz-Bravo. Más que una lectura formal o estilística, el proyecto se centró en una afinidad más profunda: la actitud del artista ante la creación.

El resultado fue una instalación expandida que combinó pintura, objeto y espacio, reactivando gestos de la trayectoria de Arranz-Bravo, desde sus intervenciones en el espacio público hasta la dimensión lúdica y experimental de su obra.

Román Fabré e Ian Soler Bradley, presentarán dentro del marco de la Nit de l’Art 26 un proyecto a duo en los espacios 1 y 2 de la galería, comisariado por Esmeralda Gómez Galera bajo el título “Garbage worth being kept.”

“All the images in this exhibition share a recurring element: the presence of staircases. They appear in industrial contexts, isolated and without a clear function.
They are a metaphor for height, for that which we sense but cannot fully see... they carry a spiritual dimension. The staircases point toward the possibility of collapse, but also reveal the fragility and strange beauty of the provisional structures we build. Taking height here means placing oneself before the ephemeral condition of everything that surrounds us”

“Todas las imágenes que componen esta exposición comparten un elemento recurrente: la presencia de escaleras. Se encuentran en contextos industriales,
aisladas y sin una función clara. Son una metáfora de la altura, de aquello que intuimos, pero no llegamos a ver... tienen una dimensión espiritual. Las escaleras nos muestran la posibilidad del colapso, pero también la fragilidad y extraña belleza de las estructuras provisionales que construimos. Tomar altura implica aquí situarse
ante la condición efímera de todo cuanto nos rodea.”

“In Half Dozen (2026), the gloopy luxury of meticulously rendered oyster shells is served as an embodied still life. I am reminded of Rêve de Luxe (Dream of Luxury, 1944), Dorothea Tanning’s clam painting full of tiny purses, another known influence on Blakeley. If Gaston Bachelard has portrayed the imagination as an emergent creature, Blakeley has become its conchologist. The world is your oyster, or so they say.”
