“A YEAR ON BORNHOLM” 2027 CALENDAR 💚💛🧡💙

Twelve months. Four seasons. Just me and my camera…

It was colourful!
And good for the soul.

Every image has a story…

My 2027 Bornholm Calendar is about more than the colours of the island. Each month captures places, moments and discoveries - with the stories behind the images bringing them to life.

Here are October’s five stories — from smoky gold to stormy grey.

OCTOBER GOLD! 🧡🍁

Golden yellows, russet reds and the mellow glow of autumn on Bornholm. It’s a beautiful time of year here.

From the striking yellow church in Allinge to smoked herrings, a silhouetted Hammershus Castle, peeping sheep and trees dressed in gold - these five images capture the special atmosphere of October.

Together they make up the October page of my 2027 calendar: “A Year on Bornholm”.

The Autumn Colours of Bornholm (Pt 3/3) 🧡🍁

From exploring Bornholm’s glorious autumn colours to finding inspiration in the paintings of Oluf Høst, this is where it all comes together in my final montage.

A celebration of the season’s rich colours and textures - captured in images and brought together into one vibrant composition.

The final piece in my Autumn story - and the one that led to my exhibitions at the Oluf Høst Museum in 2023 and Gudhjem Mill in 2024.

Today “The Colours of Bornholm: In All Four Seasons” is on permanent display at Bornholm Airport.

The Autumn Colours of Bornholm (Pt 2/3) 🧡🍁

One of Bornholm’s most famous artists was the colourist Oluf Høst (1884-1966). When I discovered his work, I noticed the parallels in our colours in each season. Same Bornholm… 100 years apart!

I draw on this to make my PhotoArt Series: “The Colours of Bornholm: In All Four Seasons”. See how the colours match… and the rich, warm burgundies, greens and golds of autumn come together…

The Autumn Colours of Bornholm (Pt 1/3) 🧡🍁

Back in 2022, I returned to Bornholm to complete Season 2 of my year long PhotoArt series. I walked the island, enjoying the golden sunshine and rich, warm hues - gathering my palette of colours as I went.

When I’d collected, named and written stories about the 54 colours in the Autumn Palette, I went on to take inspiration from the island’s most famous painter and colourist Oluf Høst - but more on that in Part 2.

Little did I know then that I was on my way to a new life living and exhibiting on Bornholm, my little Danish island in the middle of the Baltic Sea. ✨

THAT’S A WRAP! 🎁

Phew! My Allinge gallery is now closed for the season - and I’ve just finished wrapping 24 mugs ready to move them to my other outlets on the island.

The mugs come in four different colours, each packed with little details and favourite places from around Bornholm. They’re dishwasher-safe too - and they come with my little stories about the island.

So while the doors of “The House of Many Colours” are now closed, my colourful Bornholm gifts can still be found all year round at Bornholm Airport and the Welcome Centre in Rønne.

My gallery in Allinge is now closed for the season… but you can still find plenty of my colour on Bornholm!

My permanent exhibition at Bornholm Airport brings together work from “The Colours of Bornholm: In All Four Seasons” - and it’s there to enjoy all year round.

You don’t need to be catching a flight either! Pop in to see the free exhibition and enjoy a coffee or lunch at Café Take Off while you’re there.

There’s also a range of my Fine Art Prints and colourful Art Gifts including a 2027 Calendar, Notebooks and Mugs to take a little bit of that Bornholm magic home with you.

WARM SEPTEMBER 🧡

September is full of surprises in Bornholm. It still holds on to the warmth of summer but the light shifts to the golden tones of autumn.

I don’t have to go far from home to capture its colours. Witness the dramatic purple-to-orange sunrise on Sandvig beach; and the changing foliage on my favourite Hammerknuden walk.

So pleased I finally captured the Camel Heads rock beneath Hammershus Castle and spent time with “the caretakers” - the friendly goats and sheep that roam free, grazing the headland.
