The video work „Glasgow Sound City“ was created in 2014 during Ronny Bulik’s residency at the Glasgow School of Art. Running for almost two hours, the work consists exclusively of Bulik’s own footage and explores Glasgow as an urban space of experience, whose cultural identity is profoundly shaped by its music scene and the social contexts surrounding it.
Through an open, associative visual structure, Bulik brings together observations of the urban environment, architectural fragments, and visual rhythms to examine perception, memory, and atmosphere. Rather than treating the city as a documentary subject, the work approaches it as a cultural fabric constituted through the movement of the image and the temporal structure of the medium.
Ronny Bulik studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig (HGB). His work has been presented at institutions including the G2 Kunsthalle and the Museum of Fine Arts Leipzig. In 2018, he was awarded the Marion Ermer Prize. In 2019, Bulik was a guest of the Goethe-Institut Thessaloniki. In 2027, he will undertake a three-month residency as a scholarship holder at the renowned German Study Centre in Venice (Centro Tedesco di Studi Veneziani). His works are held in, among others, the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts Leipzig, the Dresden State Art Collections, and the Florian Peters-Messer Collection.
