The stories begin with longing. Moths are called moths because they fly in the dark. As soon as they see light, they circle around it. That’s crazy. Just as everyone and everything is crazy. And that’s a good thing, too. That way, we’re all one again in our craziness. A creature takes a deep gulp from the moonlit pool, startling the frog in the process; the frog springs up from its crouch and scurries away. The water splashes and the stream flows along its course, as is its nature. The tortoise moves sluggishly – a creature as if from another planet. But no, it was already here 220 million years ago, in the order of the Sauropsida, as people say. And they saw that it was good So they decided to take the plunge too. And now they’re marvelling at this armoured thing that moves along in such a charming way.

The exhibition has been extended until 18 April.
We’re open on Good Friday and Easter Saturday. After Easter, we’ll be back from 10 April. Do pop in – we look forward to seeing you….

Crocodiles have existed in their basic form for many millions of years, virtually unchanged, as they are perfectly adapted to their environment. Certain species of shark have been around for 350 to 400 million years. Nature has designed these species so perfectly that evolution has not overtaken them. Where does this come from? What makes them so special? We cannot peer behind the secrets of nature, but what we can see and admire are creatures that have mastered their habitat to perfection and are both beautiful and fearsome in equal measure.
