Das eindrucksvolle Bauhausgebäude in Dessau erscheint in seiner kühlen Eleganz und der formalen Einfachheit hochmodern – als wäre es gerade eben gebaut worden. Das von Walter Gropius gestaltete Bauhausgebäude ist seit langem eine Ikone der Moderne, in der sich eine komplexe Idee in Stahl, Glas und Stein manifestiert. Gestern haben wir das Bauhausfest eröffnet. Heute geht es weiter ab 19 Uhr am Bauhausgebäude mit Musik, Begegnungen, Perspektiven und all dem, was das Bauhaus lebendig macht.
Für die Early Birds unter euch: schaut doch um 15:30 Uhr zur Eröffnung von „Gong | Schlag | Piff“ im Bauhaus Museum Dessau vorbei. Außerdem könnt ihr seit 13 Uhr bei der Jubiläumstombola am Bauhausgebäude mit etwas Glück Teile aus der Bauhaus Dessau x Adidas Kollektion sowie weitere tolle Preise gewinnen. Bis gleich!

Yesterday we kicked off the Bauhaus Festival. Today the celebrations continue from 7 pm at the Bauhaus Building with music, socialising, new perspectives and everything that brings the Bauhaus to life.
For the early birds amongst you: why not pop round at 3.30 pm for the opening of “Gong | Bang | Whistle” at the Bauhaus Museum Dessau? Sneak Peek zum Bauhausfest!
Heute und morgen feiern wir am Bauhausgebäude „Salto I Takt I Form“. Das Bauhausfest 2026 widmet sich der historischen Zirkusbegeisterung am Bauhaus und überträgt sie in die Gegenwart. Freut euch auf Musik, Performances, Tanz, Installationen, Führungen, Workshops und jede Menge Zirkus!
Der Eintritt ins Bauhausgebäude beträgt an beiden Abenden für Erwachsene jeweils 5 €. Tickets bekommt ihr an der Abendkasse oder online. Wir freuen uns auf ein buntes Fest mit euch allen!

A sneak peek at the Bauhaus Festival!
Today and tomorrow, we’re celebrating "Flip I Beat I Shape" at the Bauhaus building. The 2026 Bauhaus Festival is dedicated to the Bauhaus’s historic passion for the circus and brings it into the present day. Look forward to music, performances, dance, installations, guided tours, workshops and plenty of circus!
Admission to the Bauhaus Building costs €5 for adults on both evenings. Tickets are available at the box office or online. We look forward to a colourful festival with you all!

1928 entwarf der Bauhausstudent Alfred Arndt einen Klappstuhl für das von ihm gestaltete „Haus des Volkes“ in Probstzella. Ausgehend von einem Klappstuhl-Entwurf des Bauhäuslers zeichnet Andreas Butter, Stiftung Bauhaus Dessau, das Bild einer weltweiten Faszination für den chromblitzenden Freischwinger zwischen Avantgardeanspruch, Modetrend und Pragmatismus nach.

In 1928, Bauhaus student Alfred Arndt designed a folding chair for the "Haus des Volkes" in Probstzella, which he had designed himself. Drawing on a folding chair design by the Bauhaus artist, Andreas Butter of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation traces the story of the worldwide fascination with the gleaming chrome cantilever chair, which straddled the line between avant-garde aspirations, fashion trends and pragmatism.

Zum Bauhausfest schmücken Bettina Miletas Installationen den Außenraum. „Flaggschiff“ wird an den Seitenbalkonen des Prellerhauses gezeigt. Ergänzend dazu ist die neue Arbeit „Luftikuss“ zu sehen: ein Ensemble luftgefüllter Textilskulpturen.
Außerdem weisen euch skulpturale Interventionen – die „Ghosts“, die von unserer Kuratorischen Werkstatt gestaltet wurden – den Weg.

To mark the Bauhaus Festival, Bettina Mileta’s installations adorn the outdoor space. "Flagship" is on display on the side balconies of the Prellerhaus. Complementing this is the new work "Luftikuss": an ensemble of air-filled textile sculptures.
In addition, sculptural installations – the "Ghosts", designed by our Curatorial Workshop – will guide you along the way.

Drei unserer Abteilungen beschäftigen sich in ihrer Arbeit mit diversen Forschungsthemen: die Akademie, die Sammlung und die Bauabteilung.
Schwerpunkte der Forschung in Dessau sind neben der wissenschaftlichen Bearbeitung der Neuzugänge der Sammlung, Themen wie Bauhaus und Migration, Bauhaus im Text und die jüngere Geschichte des Bauhauses Dessau auf dem Weg von der DDR bis zur heutigen Stiftung. Außerdem steht die denkmalpflegerische Erhaltung der Gebäude genau so im Mittelpunkt wie die wissenschaftliche Arbeit des Bauforschungsarchivs zu Materialien und Bauprozessen der Moderne.

Three of our departments focus on various research topics in their work: the Academy, the Collection Department and the Building Department.
In addition to the scholarly processing of new acquisitions for the collection, research in Dessau focuses on topics such as the Bauhaus and migration, the Bauhaus in text, and the recent history of the Bauhaus Dessau, from the GDR era to the present-day foundation. Furthermore, the conservation of the buildings is just as much a priority as the academic work of the research archive on materials and construction processes in modernism.
