Reality is never as stable as it seems. In Fabian Herkenhoener’s paintings, language, gesture and material collide, revealing the fragility, contradictions and ambiguities that shape contemporary life. Between irony and poetry, his works invite us to question what we perceive as reality.

GENARO STROBEL
Snow Angel (28)
2026
oil on wood (poplar)
90 x 60 cm

Genaro Strobel’s latest body of work features fifteen framed oil-on-wood panels that merge personal history with universal artistic inquiry. Taking the unconditioned drawing as a starting point, the series investigates the primordial language of early childhood. Inspired by his own early drawings, preserved in a diary kept by his mother, Strobel developed digital drawings that capture the dense, urgent expansion of these early marks. Titled ‘Snow Angel’, each individual painting corresponds directly to its original digital draft. Refusing to romanticize his own early marks, he elevates them to a site of inquiry, evolving a precise visual articulation.

Aljoscha is part of Beneath the Surface, Beyond the Trees, a group exhibition presented as part of Kunsthalle Düsseldorf’s Kunsthalle unterwegs series.

Set around the normally inaccessible Suitbertus Lake in Düsseldorf-Kaiserswerth, the exhibition transforms this hidden natural environment into a temporary site for artistic interventions. Engaging with the lake’s ecosystem, shoreline, and surrounding landscape, the participating artists explore new relationships between body, nature, and space.

Alongside Aljoscha, the exhibition features works by Daniel Hölzl & Abie Franklin, Sofía Magdits Espinoza, Sophie Utikal, and Finnegan Shannon.

On view until 9 August 2026

All My Colours is an ongoing series consisting of over 200 glazed stoneware pieces. It functions as a kind of alphabet, lexicon, or system of notation. The vibrant and suggestive force of the generated colours imbues these forms with a malleable character that oscillates between abstract objects, miniature paintings, and experimental findings.
