Moto Club de Monaco Visits FIM Headquarters and Racing Motorcycle Museum During Alpine Journey

The FIM recently welcomed members of the MotoClub De Monaco (MCM) to its Headquarters in Mies, Switzerland, as part of their multi-day motorcycle journey through the Alps. Led by MCM President Christophe Greco, the visit offered the group an opportunity to discover the FIM Headquarters, its Technology Laboratory and the FIM Racing Motorcycle Museum, while strengthening their connection with the FIM Staff.

The Honda RCB is more than just a race bike—it's an endurance racing icon. In the hands of French rider Jean-Claude Chemarin, it became one of the most dominant machines of the late 1970s, conquering Europe's greatest endurance races.

Powered by an air-cooled 941cc inline-four producing around 115 horsepower, the RCB combined raw performance, exceptional reliability, and a soundtrack that became legendary. At a time when simply finishing a 24-hour race was an achievement, Honda was redefining what was possible.

With his smooth riding style and remarkable consistency, Jean-Claude Chemarin played a key role in writing one of the greatest chapters in endurance racing history, helping Honda secure prestigious victories and a FIM World Endurance Championship title.

Do you know the FIM Sidecarcross World Championship? 🏁

Three wheels. Two riders. One goal: absolute commitment.

This is the 2022 machine of Etienne Bax, five-time FIM Sidecarcross World Champion. Built around a WSP chassis and powered by a 450cc Husqvarna 4-stroke engine, this outfit represents the pinnacle of sidecar motocross engineering. Paired with passenger Ondřej Čermák, Bax claimed the 2022 world title after an intense championship battle that went down to the final round.

A unique combination of power, precision and teamwork. In Sidecarcross, victory isn't just about speed—it's about perfect synchronization between driver and passenger on every jump, every corner and every lap.

🏁 Kenny Roberts & the Yamaha YZR750 (1978)

In 1978, Kenny Roberts didn't just win the FIM 500cc World Championship—he changed motorcycle racing forever.

Riding the legendary Yamaha YZR750 OW35, the Californian introduced a revolutionary riding style: knee down, controlled slides, and unmatched precision. Inspired by American dirt track racing, his technique became the blueprint for generations of Grand Prix riders.

Powered by a four-cylinder two-stroke engine producing nearly 120 horsepower and weighing around 140 kg (309 lbs), the YZR750 was one of the most advanced racing machines of its era.

The 1978 season marked the beginning of a new chapter in motorcycle racing history, as Kenny Roberts became the first American rider to win the premier-class World Championship, paving the way for a generation of legends.
Some motorcycles win races. Others redefine the sport. The 1978 Yamaha YZR750 belongs to the latter.

🏁 Cagiva WMX 125 Factory – Dave Strijbos (1986) 🇮🇹

In 1986, this factory-built Cagiva made motocross history. Ridden by Dutch teenager Dave Strijbos, it claimed the FIM 125cc Motocross World Championship, giving Cagiva its second consecutive world title in the class.

Designed by Jan Witteveen, the WMX 125 Factory was a true Grand Prix machine: a liquid-cooled 125cc two-stroke engine, CTS exhaust power valve, 6-speed gearbox, lightweight steel frame, and extensive use of magnesium and titanium components. It was one of the most advanced and competitive 125cc motocross bikes of its era.

At just 18 years old, Dave Strijbos became the youngest Motocross World Champion in history at the time, achieving a milestone that inspired an entire generation.

A true icon of the 1980s and one of the finest factory two-strokes ever built. 🔥
