-Dimitri Christofis, enseignant d’arts visuels.

Imagine a swimming pool—public or private—or, more specifically, its darker side, whether environmental, ethical, or social. This is the question that students in the visual arts track at Lycée Blaise-Cendrars in La Chaux-de-Fonds explored as part of the exhibition “For One Solid Time, Wet: The Swimming Pool in the Imagination”.

The students’ works convey intrusive, prying gazes and a sense of suffocation and oppression that is often curiously akin to loneliness. These weighty themes contrast with the carefree atmosphere culturally associated with swimming pools, yet they are put into perspective by the inner struggles and contradictions the students are navigating at this age.

-Dimitri Christofis, visual arts teacher.

『𝑭𝑶𝑹 𝑶𝑵𝑬 𝑺𝑶𝑳𝑰𝑫 𝑻𝑰𝑴𝑬, 𝑾𝑬𝑻』

Co-curated by Federica Chiocchetti and Lou Stoppard, the exhibition *For One Solid Time, Wet: The Swimming Pool in the Imagination* explores the swimming pool as a significant motif in the history of contemporary art.

It brings together artists who have examined the complexity of the swimming pool, using it as a symbol of both prosperity and catastrophe, joy and solitude: a metaphor for our quest for order and serenity in the face of an increasingly uncertain future.

On view from October 3, 2026, to February 21, 2027
