The Photoforum Pasquart aims to provide a platform for the visions of a younger generation of artists and photographers. The Photoforum Pasquart is part of the Pasquart building which also includes the Kunsthaus Pasquart, the Filmpodium, the Société des beaux-arts de Bienne and espace libre. Das Photoforum Pasquart präsentiert seine Sicht auf die neue Generation von Künstlern und Fotografen, indem es gesellschaftlichen und politischen Fragen ebenso viel Bedeutung beimisst wie der Kunst. Wir bieten wechselnde Ausstellungen zeitgenössischer Fotografie und den Prix Photoforum. Das Photoforum Pasquart ist Teil des Pasquart Gebäudes, das unter anderem vom Kunsthaus Pasquart, dem Filmpodium, dem Kunstverein Biel und espace libre genutzt wird. Le Photoforum Pasquart présente sa vision de la nouvelle génération d’artistes et photographes en accordant autant d’importance aux questions de société et de politiques qu’à l’art. Nous proposons des expositions temporaires de photographie contemporaine et le Prix Photoforum. Encounters: What’s next? On Sunday 25 October, a tour and panel at Photoforum Pasquart on how digital technologies are changing the way images are made and shown.

What does the screen inherit from the printed page, and what does it reinvent? Starting from Benoit Chattaway’s exhibition “L’Étiquette Bleue”, artists Benoit Chattaway and Catherine Leutenegger and curators Anna Konstantinova and Amelie Schüle each share a personal view on these shifting image cultures. Then the conversation opens up to the audience.

Meet the Artist: Claude Bühler

Studio Claude Bühler is a photographer, sound researcher, and artist whose practice bridges analogue photography, sound, and performance.
Central to the exhibition space is the focus rope—a symbolic and tactile element on display that serves as a sign of sharing, connection, and relational practice between the artist, the collective, and the audience.

For “how goes tomorrow”, a long-term multimedia project developed between 2021 and 2026, Bühler moved onto the farm during the COVID-19 pandemic to document the collective’s daily life and working process from within. Rather than viewing photography as a distant record, her approach engages image-making as a relational practice, questioning how alternative social and ecological practices can be rendered visible without idealization.

For the exhibition at Photoforum, the project brings together large-format analogue photographs, a participatory research setup, and a film featuring interview footage shown directly on view in the museum space. The exhibition also features a living element: a nursery of young plants cultivated according to the collective’s principles, which will be redistributed to visitors at the end of the show.

The exhibition is on view through 29 November 2026.

Meet the Artist: Benoît Chattaway

is a French-English photographer based in Ticino, whose practice is shaped by movement, observation and a persistent sense of being an outsider. Having lived and worked across Europe and the Middle East, Chattaway’s experience of constantly moving between places has deeply influenced the way he approaches the photographic image and his relationship to the environments he encounters.

For "L’Étiquette Bleue", Chattaway works primarily with a large-format camera, both analogue and digital. The camera becomes more than a technical tool: its slower and more deliberate process encourages him to consider his position within the landscape before taking the photograph. His images emerge from an attentive encounter with what is already present, allowing contingency, memory and time to become integral elements of the work.

Originally conceived as a commission and later developed into a book the project reflects on Chattaway’s arrival in Ticino and his experience of settling in a valley that was not originally his own. Having moved into his wife Valentina’s childhood home, the project unfolded during a period marked by grief, questions of belonging, and reflections on family, parenthood and the possibility of putting down roots.

The exhibition is on view through 29 November 2026.

Open Lab, October 3

As part of the anniversary celebrating 200 years of photography, Photoforum, together with the Schule für Gestaltung Biel/Bienne, is launching its first Open Lab on Saturday, October 3.

The series opens with Rudolf Steiner (), an artist and photographer who lives and works between Biel, Rondchâtel and Warsaw. Self-taught and working across different media, Steiner starts from the process itself. In Ricochet, a series he began in 2013, a camera robot records the landscape around his studio and the deviations that appear along the way stay in the image.

Open Lab will take place on the first Saturday of every month, inviting a special guest from the local photography scene to share their knowledge, techniques and ways of working.
A photo lab is a valuable tool, but getting access to one can be another matter. With Open Lab, we want to change that and open the doors to everyone: beginners, students, professionals, and anyone curious to experiment with photography.
