The Photoforum Pasquart aims

to provide a platform for the visions of a younger generation of artists and photographers. The Photoforum Pasquart is part of the Pasquart building which also includes the Kunsthaus Pasquart, the Filmpodium, the Société des beaux-arts de Bienne and espace libre.

Last weekend to see Tiziana Amico’s "Zagara" and Virginie Rebetez’s "Ajouter un Tiret" exhibitions. 📸

For the final weekend, we invite you to visit both exhibitions, bringing together two very different family stories and two ways of looking at memory, absence and what photography can hold.

Starting from family archives, Tiziana Amico and Virginie Rebetez each move between the personal and the collective, between what is remembered and what has been silenced.

In "Zagara", Amico follows the traces of her family history in Sicily, weaving together photographs, archival images, landscapes, scent and sound.

In "Ajouter un Tiret", Rebetez approaches death and memory through five projects developed over more than twenty years, including "La Rencontre", an intimate work that began with the exhumation of her grandparents.

📌The exhibitions are open until Sunday 30 August. Come by and see them before they close.

Encounter: Ajouter un Tiret

Tomorrow evening, Virginie Rebetez steps into the exhibition space and extends La Rencontre through a live intervention. For our series Encounter, she returns to that question in the space itself, alongside the work, opening up her process and her thinking on memory, transmission and transformation.

The work began with an administrative fact: her grandparents' graves were to be cleared. The family decided on an exhumation, and Rebetez was there, not as an observer but physically present in the pit, working with her hands. For over twenty years she has asked what photography can show of death and what it must leave unseen.

We threw a party! ☀️

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Summer Act: for wandering between the houses, for taking a tour, for guessing in the film quiz, for dancing at the concert, and for staying with us into the night, all the way to the open-air film.

Thank you to Benedikt Bock and for the reading, Théo & Arno Louis Arno Louis for the Frèreformance, Save my Skin SMS for the concert, ONRI Ferments ONRI Ferments for the ramen, Gelato Club Gelato Club for the ice cream, and to everyone who ran the bar, mixed syrups and led the walks and tours. We are launching a new event series: Open Lab. 🔬

A photo lab is a valuable tool. Getting into one is another matter. From September, the photo lab at the Schule für Gestaltung Biel opens on the first Saturday of every month, to everyone: beginners, students, professionals and anyone looking for a place to experiment. Someone from the local photography scene is there each time to help and pass on what they know.

Rudolf Steiner () opens the series. Saturday 5 September, 10am to 3pm. Pay what you can, recommended 90 to 150 CHF including materials. Sign up via the link in bio, places are limited.

That we are starting now is not a coincidence. In 1826, Nicéphore Niépce coated a pewter plate with bitumen, pointed it out of his window and waited eight hours for the light to do the rest. The plate still exists. Two hundred years later, the anniversary is being marked with a year of events running from September 2026 to September 2027, and we are opening ours where the image is still made by hand, with chemistry, paper and time.

Final week 📸

We’re entering the final week of Virginie Rebetez’s "Ajouter un Tiret" at Photoforum Pasquart.
For twenty years, Rebetez has explored what photography can show of death, approaching it with care. "Ajouter un Tiret" brings this ongoing inquiry together in a reflection on memory, absence, and the traces we leave behind.

"Donna Moderna"

The media act as key producers of symbolic violence. Through the constant repetition of stereotypical images of femininity, such as ‘the seductive temptress’, ‘the self-sacrificing mother’ and ‘the passive object’, social gender hierarchies are not only portrayed but also internalised as natural and self-evident.

These images are particularly effective because they lead those being dominated to contribute to their own subordination. Female worth is linked to beauty, conformity and availability, whilst autonomy and independence are portrayed as problematic. What appears to be harmless entertainment establishes an order in which control and restriction are accepted as natural components of women’s lives.

In this way, the media contribute significantly to the reproduction of those invisible power relations that perpetuate gender inequality and violence.

Vous trouverez mon corps au petit port (2020)

In June 2010, Rebetez’s great-uncle Bernard took his own life in Lake Biel. He left a note : «I can no longer bear my deafness and therefore my solitude. You will find me at the small harbour beach.» Rebetez was living abroad at the time and could not attend the funeral. Years later, she began working with the objects her father had recovered under her instuction from Bernard’s apartment: clothes, documents, small traces. The work does not seek to explain or resolve what happened, but to carefully reconnect with a life that ended in silence.
Text plays a central role: Bernard’s farewell message and the police statement become fragments through which a life can be approached, even when the person himself remains absent. It marked Rebetezs first turn toward her own biography, opening a line of inquiry that would continue through subsequent projects.
