A three-day music festival is set to provide a final burst of summer entertainment at Manitou Beach this weekend.
The ninth annual Manitou Music Fest runs Sept. 4 to 6, with events taking place at the Little Manitou Art Gallery and Danceland.
Organizers Sarah McKen of the Little Manitou Art Gallery and Lane Manson of Danceland are collaborating on the festival, which features a mix of blues, roots, rock, reggae and dance music.
Music at Little Manitou Art Gallery
The Little Manitou Art Gallery will host its main festival event Saturday from 5pm to midnight.
McKen says the evening will feature a wide variety of performers, including The Great Fuss, Wade Fehr, Jarvis Mattson, and Bruce Rawling. The ever-popular Spinja +Crew fire performers will also be part of the evening, while Oral Fuentes’ band will close out the night with a dance party.
McKen says the gallery has hosted the Saturday night music component of the festival for nine years.
Danceland keeps the music going
Danceland will host events throughout the weekend, beginning Friday night with the Gecko Band from Puerto Vallarta.
Saturday night will feature England, with a set of dance music including songs from the likes of The Beatles and The Monkees. Manson says the band will also feature a special guest with a tribute to the late, great Dolly Parton.
The festival wraps up Sunday at Danceland with Saskatoon band Rock Candy, featuring local musician Brooke Nickel from Watrous. The evening begins with a Roughrider watch party.
Weekend pass offers value
Organizers are offering individual tickets as well as an all-weekend pass. The full weekend pass is $99 and provides access to all of the festival's shows.
McKen says "It’s a tremendous offer, to see all of that entertainment in a weekend for a hundred bucks.”
The festival is supported through the Sask Festivals Grant, with funding from SaskArts, SaskCulture and Sask Lotteries. The collaboration between Danceland and Little Manitou Art Gallery is also supported through Canadian Heritage Local Festivals grant.
McKen says that funding has helped organizers bring local Sask artists to the stage.

Manitou Music Fest is a high-energy celebration of Saskatchewan music on the shores of Little Manitou Lake.

The festival began right here at Little Manitou Art Gallery in 2018 and has since grown into a multi-day festival through a collaboration with Danceland, with performances there Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Infectious reggae and Afro-Latin fusion rooted in Fuentes’ Belizean background and built for dancing. His Saskatoon-based band has performed at the Saskatchewan Jazz Festival, Regina Folk Festival, Ness Creek and JunoFest.

High-energy Saskatoon pop-rock with catchy melodies, driving piano and guitar, and a joyful live show.
