In 2026, 15,000 visitors came through the doors of Bell Island’s #2 Mine Tour & Museum.

Think about what that means for our island.

At a modest $100 spent per visitor, those visits would represent $1.5 MILLION in spending, supporting our restaurants, cafés, bars, shops, accommodations & local tourism operators.

15,000 visitors × $100 = $1.5 million in potential economic activity.

Behind every visitor dollar is a business owner, an employee, a family & another reason to keep investing in Bell Island.

From lunch before a tour to a b**r afterward, visitor spending can spread throughout the community.

Our miners helped build this community. Today, their stories continue to bring people here, connecting our extraordinary past with our economic future!

WE MAY BE CLOSED FOR THE SEASON… BUT OUR STORIES NEVER CLOSE!

Nobody on Bell Island ever needed a road number to give directions.

We'd tell you to go past where the old store used to be, turn left at the house that used to be green, keep going until you reach where so-and-so's grandfather lived, & if you got lost, just ask the first person you met!

Chances are, they'd know your parents, your grandparents, & half your family tree before they ever told you which way to turn!

That's Bell Island for you. An Island where roads hold memories, old buildings hold secrets, & every family has a worth telling.

Our #2 Mine Tour & may be closed for the season, but Bell Island's history never takes a holiday. The , the families, the shops, the schools, the neighbours, & the characters who made this Island what it is, their stories live on through all of us.

Bell Island Society, Our Doors May Close for a Season, But Our Lives On Forever.

Today I received this beautiful, unexpected gift from the Museum Association of NL board members and staff. They are an amazing group of people to work with and I am grateful for their support, commitment and dedication to the Museums and Heritage Sites in our province. As I officially step down, I do so with many wonderful memories and gratitude for the friendships made over these two decades! Thank you MANL!!!!

Newfoundland & Labrador Tourism15,000 VISITORS = AN ESTIMATED $1.5 MILLION IN COMMUNITY ECONOMIC ACTIVITY.

During our 2026 season, the #2 Mine Tour & Museum proudly welcomed approximately 15,000 visitors to Bell Island.

Based on an estimated local expenditure of $100 per visitor, those visits represent approximately $1.5 million in direct visitor spending connected to our community.

That spending supports more than one attraction. It reaches museum operations, local employment, restaurants, shops, transportation providers, suppliers & other community businesses & services.

For Bell Island, 15,000 visitors is much more than an attendance figure. It means economic activity, employment, community pride & new opportunities for growth.

As one of Newfoundland and Labrador’s outstanding cultural heritage attractions, the #2 Mine Tour & Museum is not only preserving & sharing the remarkable story of Bell Island, we are helping strengthen its future.
