Mini Marty the Miner caught up with NTV News weatherman Ryan Harding to explore the difference between surface weather & underground conditions at the Bell Island No. 2 Mine Tour and Museum

While weather above ground constantly changes, conditions underground remain remarkably stable at about 6°C year-round. This consistent temperature is due to the natural thermal stability of the rock deep beneath the surface.

It’s a reminder of what life was like for miners on Bell Island, working in a cool, constant environment regardless of the season above.

Mini Marty says: “Up top you check the forecast… underground you just know it’s 6°C!”
