In our ongoing Speakers Series, we were pleased to welcome historian Jim Mullin for his presentation, A People Ready to Stand: Life, Loyalty, and the Militia in Prescott‑Russell. Jim offered a compelling exploration of how local residents organized, lived, and served within the militia tradition. His talk illuminated the social fabric, obligations, and loyalties that shaped community defence in the Prescott‑Russell region, providing valuable insight into a defining chapter of our local heritage.

Our latest Speaker Series featured a fascinating and moving presentation by Debbie Hall, who shared stories of orphaned children in Vankleek Hill and the surrounding area from the 1800s through the 1900s.

Following Debbie’s presentation, a panel of special guests shared their own stories, memories, and family connections. They also answered questions from the audience, adding even more personal insight to this important part of our local history.

It was an engaging and memorable evening that helped bring the stories of Vankleek Hill’s past to life.

A Taste of Vankleek Hill’s History

We were delighted to welcome Jean Luc Pilon to our Speaker Series for a fascinating and nostalgic look back at the history of Pilon’s Bakery.

Jean-Luc shared wonderful stories and memories of the bakery, the Pilon family, and the important place the business held in the community. For many, Pilon’s Bakery was more than just a place to buy fresh bread and baked goods — it was a familiar part of everyday life and a cherished piece of Vankleek Hill’s history.

It was a wonderful trip down memory lane, bringing back memories of the sights, sounds, and perhaps even the delicious smells of the bakery!

We are pleased to share an audio recording of Jean-Luc’s presentation for everyone who would like to listen and enjoy these memories of a special part of our community’s past.
