We’re delighted to share “Physis,” a new limited edition created and generously donated by Bharti Kher in support of MOCA Toronto, on the occasion of her exhibition “Bones.”

Meaning “nature” or “the nature of things” in Greek, “Physis” brings together Kher’s distinctive use of bindis with pigment inks on cotton rag paper. Applied by hand, the bindis make each work subtly unique.

Limited to 15 signed editions, they are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

We are deeply grateful to Bharti Kher for her generosity and to our community of collectors and supporters for helping make ambitious exhibitions like “Bones” possible at MOCA.

This summer we partnered with Nuit Blanche Toronto for two artist-led workshops. Whether you joined Rhonda Weppler and Trevor Mahovsky to create watercolor paintings inspired by lost objects, or made imperfect baskets with Blessyl Buan, catch the finished projects before they close!

As part of the Nuit Blanche Toronto Extended Projects program, you can view “The Museum of Lost Things” by Rhonda Weppler and Trevor Mahovsky and “Ephemera: The Art We Didn't Make” by Blessyl Buan, plus more projects at Old City Hall until October 10.

Extended projects at Old City Hall (60 Queen St. W) are available to view at the following times:
Thursday, October 8: 5–10 pm
Friday, October 9: 11am–7pm
Saturday, October 10: 11am–7pm

Beverly Glenn-Copeland’s “Light of the Heavens” is now on at MOCA as part of our South Stairwell Sound Series.

Resonating throughout the stairwell, the recently recovered song from his archives was created during the same era as his landmark album “Keyboard Fantasies,” which celebrates its 40th anniversary this fall.

Untethered to any album, the song embodies the contemplative spirit and sonic language that has drawn generations of listeners, including more recent admirers and collaborators Sam Smith, Bon Iver, Romy, and Wu Tsang, among others.

A mysterious blend of synthesizers supports Glenn-Copeland’s tender, measured voice, evoking both the immeasurable expanse of the universe and the reassuring sense of our belonging within it.

Described by him as “a gift from my past,” the song sheds new light on Glenn-Copeland’s enduring practice while offering a meditation on the ties between humanity and the unknowable.

Bharti Kher’s exhibition "Bones" is now on view at MOCA.

"Bones" brings together new and earlier sculpture from the past 15 years in a dynamic dialogue with the Auto BLDG. The works move between the bodily, the architectural, and the cosmic, creating a shifting world of support and suspension, where surreal female goddesses intertwine with geometric and spiralling forms. Some of the figures are draped in Indian saris, while others float within the surrounding abstract elements.

Throughout her practice, Kher has explored how the body, shape, and sacred geometries interact and shift our understanding of the world around us. "Bones" balances control and instability in a constant tension, as her forms resist the need to settle and yet seem to find an equilibrium.

Kher's "Matter" paintings, also on view, present mirrored fields of bindis in formations evoking a celestial sky.

Delcy Morelos’s newly commissioned, site-specific installation stretches and swells from the ceiling, illuminated by natural light. Among Morelos’s most ephemeral large-scale works to date, it follows the contours of a womb and is woven from long strands of sisal rope treated with soil and corn roots harvested in Toronto.

Embedded with mixtures of corn, tapioca, and to***co, the earth recalls the medicinal and nourishing roles of these plants in the Americas. Through its physical presence, fragrance, and texture, "Ombligo" creates a space for reflection on sustenance, ritual, migration, extraction, and restoration.

“The idea is that the works are also watching you. The third eye meets the mirror.” — Bharti Kher

In Kher's “Matter” paintings, bindis sweep across broken mirrors, covering them in dense formations, evoking both microscopic life and vast celestial visions.

In “Virus XXVI,” thousands of bindis gather across the wall to form a new expansive tondo in a hypnotic, orbit-like composition.

A new season begins at MOCA this weekend ✨

Join us Saturday, October 3 for our Fall Season Preview and be among the first to experience “Bones” by Bharti Kher, “Ombligo” by Delcy Morelos, and Beverly Glenn-Copeland’s sound installation “Light of the Heavens.”

Then on Sunday, before the museum opens to the public, hear directly from the artists as Kher and Morelos each lead a tour of their exhibitions.

A few tickets are still available for the season preview and artist tours, but space is limited.

It’s corn! 🌽

For Delcy Morelos’s upcoming exhibition “Ombligo,” we partnered with Crooked Farmz, a Toronto-based microfarm at Downsview Park, to grow more than 1,000 stalks of corn for her newly commissioned installation.

Led by Sean Smith, Crooked Farmz is rooted in a commitment to soil health, urban agriculture, and our connection to the land. Sean’s practice centres on composting, microbial life, and sustainable food systems. Together with Ratcliff Farms, he planted, nurtured, harvested, and dried the corn, whose roots are now part of Morelos’s monumental installation.

The local collaboration reflects Morelos’s ongoing exploration of our relationship with the earth.
