Artist Feature: Lisa Creskey ()
Our upcoming exhibiting artist with Mon Ton Window Gallery

Join us this Saturday, May 23, 4-7pm for the opening reception of "Low Barometer".

Lisa Creskey is a ceramic artist and painter who explores the visual storytelling potential of the clay medium through sculpture and installation. By means of magical realism, she explores the intersection of history, time, nature, landscape, and art history. Investigating these themes, she creates surreal and immersive worlds in which to look for connections and to pose questions on essential concerns for humanity and the environment.

Lisa’s work has been collected nationally and internationally. She has had numerous national public exhibitions, and her international recognition includes biennales and exhibitions in Taiwan, South Korea, Latvia, and Portugal. She is a member of the International Academy of Ceramics (IAC) and the Quebec Sculpture Society (CSQ). Lisa lives and works in Chelsea, Quebec.

You can see her 23.5 m² porcelain mosaic La Traverse (2024) installed on the exterior of the new passivhaus City Hall in La Pêche, Quebec.

“Low Barometer” utilizes sculpture and installation, exploring the intersections of time, landscape, and imagination. Inviting reflection on our relationship to the natural world.

Part of "in WAKE",” Low Barometer” leads into the full site-specific exhibition at Bela Farm June 20–21, 2026.

We are excited to be in our new space and featuring the beautiful rugs by Iranian artist Negar Nakhai.

Nakhai is a multimedia artist exploring moments of alienation, longing and human malfunction. Her work is concerned with horizontality, reverence for the Ground, and the sentience of the Middle East.

She is a graduate of McGill and Concordia University.

Here in Toronto, tucked within the wooded ravine of the Don Valley is an exhibition of artworks that will transport visitors to a northern wilderness, full of mystery and shrouded in darkness.

The drawings and photographs exhibited within the Papermill Gallery at Todmorden Mills, invites visitors to journey into nolevelon — a nature preserve and sculpture garden located three hours north of the city, in the stunningly beautiful landscape of Muskoka.

The exhibition, titled nolevelon – here | there, transforms the gallery into a conceptual map of the preserve itself. As visitors move through the rooms of the gallery, they follow the same progression they would experience walking the trails of the preserve. What begins here, inside a Toronto gallery, gradually unfolds into there — a protected landscape where art, architecture, and wilderness converge.

David Salazar approaches sculpture as a balance between material knowledge and conceptual inquiry. His practice studies how cultures use animals and fables to articulate human experience, particularly regarding loss, faith and transformation. David hand models clay, creates moulds and works with bronze casting. His ongoing installation series, Forever Birds Botanicals, presents birds in transition into plant forms. “I am interested in experimenting with the physical properties of clay to depict trauma and renewal,” he says. Alongside his studio practice, David teaches foundry and casting processes, impressing the importance of patience, safety and a deep respect for the material’s history.

Lisa Creskey began her career as a painter, drawn to traditional techniques such as egg tempera and fresco. Clay became her primary medium in 2010 when she started hand building in porcelain, using it as a durable surface for carved and painted imagery. Living on a rugged property bordering Gatineau Park, Lisa observes wildlife closely, and in particular the interdependence between beings. “I believe that craft shares a DNA with human beings and all life,” she says. Lisa’s large ceramic installations expand these observations at scale, often incorporating multiple materials and inviting close, sometimes tactile, engagement from the viewer.

Home Away Home is a multidisciplinary visual and media arts exhibition and festival celebrating immigrant stories, cultural diversity, and the vernacular architecture of the city. Taking place in Toronto’s historic Kensington Market, the project transforms laneways, streets, parks, galleries, and alternative spaces into sites for artistic intervention.

By moving beyond the traditional white-cube gallery, Home Away Home uses the city itself as a canvas—inviting artists and communities to engage with its architecture, history, and public spaces. Through installations, tours, workshops, talks, and performances, the festival creates a socially engaged environment that fosters intergenerational exchange and new ways of imagining the urban landscape.

Come meet the artists Sunday 26, 2pm at 54 Kensington Ave!

My concept for the Art in the Sky sign is to show a variety of images that reflects and embraces the food and products offered at the shops in the neighborhood. The inspiration for my design comes form retro, vintage signs from the 1970’s. The side portraits of the colorful figures represents the multiculturalism and diversity of the community. Many of Kensington Markets old signs have been replaced by new ones and so my idea is to design something nostalgic and familiar, giving a friendly welcome to newcomers and visitors.

We are very excited to announce the launch of Art In The Sky project this Sunday the 26th at 2pm outside of 54-56 Kensington Avenue!

Join us in celebrating the first in a series of artworks to be displayed high above the streets of Kensington Market. Artist David Setrakian will be on hand to tell us about his inspiration of this creation and connection to the Market along with members of the Kensington Market Community Land Trust.

The Kensington Market Community Land Trust (KMCLT) has partnered with Samara Contemporary curator and local resident Rafi Ghanaghounian to bring you the first of many artists that will display their artworks high above the streets of Kensington Market. Art In The Sky invites artists that have some connection to the “Market” and express their lived experiences through visual art.
