The Community Heritage Team is actively seeking stories about Surrey’s past – happy, challenging and everything in between. The Team is adding these to the Memory Map, an online tool for people to read untold local history. It preserves memories and creates a picture of our community’s heritage for the future.

Join others in sharing stories and memories of the places that matter to you. You write down your memories and our team will add them to the map for you.

Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour the children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools and their families and communities.

This day is a time to reflect on the lasting impacts of residential schools, listen to Indigenous voices, and commit to meaningful action toward reconciliation. We recognize that reconciliation is an ongoing journey that requires learning, respect, and accountability. We encourage everyone to take time today to learn, reflect, and participate in ways that support healing and reconciliation. The Welcome Centre will be closed on Friday as we host a camp for the pro-d day. BUT we are open all weekend and we have a new exhibit in the hall. See Ahead of Her Time, an exhibit about Elinor Dunsmuir, her music and her unwillingness to fit the social norms of her time. See it Tuesday to Sunday from 12-4pm in Stewart Hall. Except tomorrow. 😉
