We are returning to our regular Friday & Saturday hours, 10 AM–4 PM, and we look forward to welcoming you!

Behind the scenes, our space is getting a little uplift as we prepare for a brand-new exhibit.

While our space is getting its makeover, our doors to local history are wide open. Our Resource Library, Digitization Station, History Centre, and educational programs continue!

A heartfelt thank you to Richard Draffin of the Ottawa Calligraphy Society for sharing his passion for bookbinding at our workshop!

Watching participants transform meaningful pieces; artwork, cherished papers, and memories into stunning handmade books was so inspiring. Under Richard’s guidance, each creation became a unique story preserved forever.

This evening reminded us that bookbinding is more than a craft; it’s a way to keep our stories close.

Before Stittsville’s Main Street was lined with the shops and businesses we know today, Bradley’s Store was a familiar gathering place in the heart of the village.

Taken around 1930, this photograph shows Bradley’s Store on Stittsville Main Street, right beside the railway tracks. Known as “The People’s Store,” Fred Bradley’s general store offered a little bit of everything - groceries, dry goods, hardware and more.

The building also served as Stittsville’s post office in 1926. And look closely… can you spot the gas pump standing out front?

A stroll down Stittsville Main Street…

What was it like to take a walk through Stittsville more than a century ago?

This charming photograph, taken around 1915, captures Maime Switzer, Gerald Alexander, and Orma Lewis out for a stroll along Stittsville Main Street.

Look closely and you will spot some wonderful details of everyday life at the time - the wooden sidewalk, muddy road and familiar village buildings that lined the street. On the left is the building that would become Bradley’s General Store, while the Temperance Hotel can be seen on the right.

It’s these little details that make historic photographs so special. They give us more than a glimpse of the past — they let us imagine what it might have felt like to walk these very streets, surrounded by a community that was still taking shape.

Join us on Saturday for Carton Pals – Family Craft Day and bring your imagination to life with egg cartons, googly eyes, pipe cleaners, and more. Whether it's a quirky hedgehog or a buzzing bee, the possibilities are endless!

Do you have a box tucked away with old family photographs? Handwritten letters? Documents or other pieces of family history that you worry might be lost or damaged over time?

At Goulbourn Museum, we have a digitization station available to help community members preserve these personal treasures.

Digitization is one way to help safeguard fragile photographs and documents by creating a digital copy that can be stored, shared with family, and enjoyed for generations to come. Our team can also offer guidance on how to care for and preserve your original materials at home.
