Smithers Art Gallery

Smithers Art Gallery The Smithers Art Gallery is a non-profit organization at the heart of the local visual arts community Admission by donation.

Smithers Art Gallery is a non-profit community gallery at the heart of the visual arts scene and has been in operation since 1971. We exhibit artwork by local, regional and provincial artists in shows that change over every 5 weeks, and hold at least one community exhibition a year which is open to everyone to participate in. The Gallery holds regular free artists' talks and demonstrations, and a

free opening reception on the first Friday of each new exhibition. We offer a range of affordable educational art programming for all ages, including art camps and free art activities for kids in the summer, beginner-level workshops for adults and older youth, and advanced-level workshops for experienced artists. We also hold cultural fundraising events for the community, including: the 6x6 Auction, Wintergold Arts & Crafts Fair, and One of a Kind Artisan Christmas Gift Shop. We are largely volunteer run - if you would like to be involved we would love to hear from you! Artist cards and prints available for purchase. To keep in touch with what's on and what's up at the Gallery, join our mailing list through the link on our website! The gallery is available to rent for your events - full details at http://smithersart.org/index.php/about/rent-the-gallery/

The vastness of these pieces have to be seen in person to feel the full impact!

Angèle Karosi's SubTerrane is a visual exploration of consciousness and intuitive creation. This series is represented as psychic landscapes, similar to geological mapping, with varying layers and buttresses, membranes and barriers, caverns and canyons. The large scale of this series is intended to help create an immersive environment in which viewers can simultaneously take in the larger, broader universe or dive down into a myriad of pocket worlds, each having their own depth of details. In this way, the work functions a bit like a “choose your own adventure” story.
This show will be on display until Sept 4th.

Angèle Karosi - "Just as Rorschach tests are used to analyze cognition and perception, my work functions in a similar way, inviting the viewer to engage with the rhythm and movement of composition, initiating their own journey through the visual field and divining their own personal meaning through self-reflection. My goal is to amplify feelings of isolation, anxiety, insignificance, awe and excitement in and by the vastness of it all; the mind, the universe, and the individual and collective experience."

As our summer camps wind down to just two more next week, we would like to thank our incredible instructors who are heading to university! By the end, they will have lead 16 camps! We are very proud of what they have accomplished and how they have inspired all their campers this year! We also want to thank the Bulkley Valley Credit Union who gave us a grant for a new laptop so the instructors had the technology they needed to develop these programs!

"Your instructors have made a big difference in my child's life- they are coming home calmer, focused and proud of what they are creating. They share with their brother all the art projects that they bring home. Your program and patient staff have given them something I couldn’t seem to as I am working a lot and am not very artistic. We enjoy our conversations about what they share with me about their day from art school. Thank you to you and your staff for helping create this connection. It’s a pretty big deal in our world" - Parent review of camps this year
