It’s time for another Throwback Thursday! This week we’re featuring "Sailing the Bay of Fundy", one of Sir William Van Horne’s original paintings displayed at Covenhoven.

Best known for his role in the Canadian Pacific Railway, Van Horne was also a passionate self-taught artist. He often painted late into the night in his studio or at the bathhouse, believing spontaneity was one of art’s greatest qualities. Many of his works were completed quickly, capturing the energy and atmosphere of the Bay of Fundy landscapes he loved so much.

Visit Covenhoven to discover more than a dozen of Van Horne’s original paintings displayed throughout the home.

Calling all dog lovers! 🐾

We absolutely love seeing your four-legged best friends exploring Ministers Island with you! To keep all of our two-legged and four-legged visitors safe and happy, please remember to keep your pups on a leash during your visit.

Feel free to explore the beautiful trails and public buildings together—just remember that the gravelled food areas and Covenhoven are a "no-pups" zone. Thank you for helping us keep the island safe and fun for everyone! 🐶❤️

Welcome to our new Throwback Thursday series! Each week we’ll explore the history of Ministers Island – from grand architecture and estate gardens to farm life and the people who shaped this extraordinary place.

We’re starting with one of the island’s most iconic features: the bathhouse. Located at the southern tip of the island, it was completed in 1912 and has stood as a place of leisure and luxury for over a century. Today, it remains a symbol of Ministers Island’s remarkable history.

This is just the beginning! Which parts of Ministers Island would you most like to explore over the coming weeks?

The Herd has arrived! Come meet Bessie, Buttercup, Clarabelle, and Daisy!
We are thrilled to welcome a striking new four-piece public art collection to Ministers Island! Created by talented New Brunswick artist Jean Hudson, these life-sized metal cow sculptures - affectionately named Bessie, Buttercup, Clarabelle, and Daisy - now stand proudly by our historic barn.

Crafted from bent and welded solid metal rods, each sculpture captures a unique personality with intricate postures, spirals and flowing lines. They serve as a beautiful, contemporary tribute to our deep agricultural roots - a history Sir William Van Horne himself, a massive supporter of the arts and breeder of prize Dutch-Belted cattle, surely would have loved.

Come visit the girls, pause for a photo, and experience this perfect blend of island history and modern creativity!

Huge thanks to ArtsNB for their generous support in making this vision possible.
