Yesterday the new exhibit “The Mighty Wedzin Kwah, A Salmon River at Risk?” was opened to the public with a well-attended and moving reception. The artist, Perry Rath spoke about the inspiration of his paintings and the fight to protect this mighty river, and the poet, Jennifer Wickham, read some of her haunting poems. Thank you to the guests who joined us to celebrate this exciting and moving new exhibit. Be sure to visit before it ends in October.

Thank you to the Steel family! Last week, Mike Steel, the son of Len and Betty Steel, generously donated this beautiful print to the Museum on behalf of his parents. This print was presented to Len Steel in 1978 when he was the Mill Manager at Canadian Cellulose, on the completion of the new Kraft Mill there. It was created by the Gitksan artist, Robert Jackson, whose son, the Tsimshian artist, Ron Jackson, has since carried on his father’s legacy. Robert Jackson began carving wood in 1966 and went on to work in gold, ivory and silkscreening. His work is prized by collectors in North America, Europe and Japan. Among the owners of his carvings were one of the Prime Ministers of Canada and the Duke of Edinburgh.
