Bus service has been secured for our Chinese Dinner tomorrow, October 17th!

It follows the same as previous events:

The bus will be picking up in Prince Rupert from the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre Bus Stop at 5:30PM

The next stop will be in Port Edward at the Aero Trading parking lot at 5:50 PM before arriving at North Pacific Cannery National Historic Site.

The bus will be leaving North Pacific Cannery National Historic Site at 8:30 PM, arriving at Aero Trading at 8:40 PM and the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre at 9:00 PM

It's the first of October and the first day of our Off Season!
We are now CLOSED to the public until May 1st 2027!
Thank you so much to our staff, volunteers, visitors, donors, partners, Mama's Messhouse and everyone who made this season so great!

We will be open for our last few dinners of our dinner series and for our annual Terror At The Cannery Halloween event, happening on Halloween this year! Stay tuned for more information.

History isn’t just dates on a timeline—it’s felt in the grain of salt-cured cedar, the cold bite of cast iron, and the pull of woven h**p.

Walk the boardwalks and buildings of North Pacific, and you quickly realize the cannery has its own visual language:
• Weathered machinery still dressed in industrial red and grease
• Handwoven split-cane and willow baskets that once stored salmon cans
• Ocean coral and specimens brought up from the cold depths of coastal waters
• Tangled webs of monofilament gillnets resting in the loft
• Heavy mooring lines frayed by salt wind and decades of tides
• Weathered shards of sea glass and pottery, scattered relics washed up, collected and arranged on a bench.

When you visit, take time to look a little closer. The details tell the deepest stories.

Step into the Salt Shed, and you’ll find more than just the expansive timbers of cannery storage, you’ll find the rhythm of the rails.

Long before modern dispatch and digital tracking, the rail line running alongside the Skeena was orchestrated right here at desks like this: ticking regulator wall clocks keeping standard rail time, telegraph keys tapping out line clearances, hand-stamped CN ticket stubs, and heavy Underwood typewriters hammering out freight manifests.

Without the railway, getting North Pacific canned salmon out to the rest of the world looked entirely different.

While salmon is often the headline of West Coast canning history, the story doesn't stop there.
In the 1970s, as fishing seasons shifted and industrial demands evolved, the roe herring fishery became a high-stakes, fast-paced chapter on the coast. License plates like this 1974 tag were a common sight on commercial vessels braving early spring waters for a fishery that sometimes lasted only hours.

Every weathered corner, crate, and can here holds a working memory. Have you spotted this corner of the Canning Line on your tour?
