The PAHS operates out of the Historical museum in down town Prince Albert, there are four museums and the Bill Smiley Archives. We are open Monday to Friday!

Today is the last day of our summer season- both for the Museums and for the Tea Room! Thank you all to those who visited the museums, ate at the Tea Room and supported the Society🥰

I would like to give a special thank you to the 13 University students that worked at the museums this summer- you did a tremendous amount of work and had a lot of fun visiting with our patrons!

Starting Monday, August 31, the museums will return to winter hours at the Historical Museum- Monday to Friday 9am to 4pm. The other three museums will be available by appointment by calling the Historical Museum (306-764-2992).

If you cannot make it to Fort Carlton this weekend, the Historical Museum has a wonderful display and information from the 60th Anniversary of the signing of Treaty 6, in 1936.

In 2013, the Society was donated a headdress that was given to Prime Minister W.L. Mackenzie King's representative Jack Sanderson. The headdress was given to Mr. Sanderson by Chief Sam Swimmer of Sweetgrass First Nation. We are looking to find more information about the maker of the headdress.

You may have noticed we haven't been as active as we usually are on social media, we have been accomodating staff holidays this month.
This weekend is your last summer weekend to visit the museums! August 29th we move to winter hours.

Summer Treat Tuesday #7 - Ice Cream! 🍦🍨
I scream. You scream. We all scream for Ice Cream!!
Did you know that the “Ice Cream Cone Rolling Machine” was invented in 1904 by a Canadian named Thomas Webb?
Rural families would bring their dairy products to Prince Albert companies like the Dairy Pool (located on 15th Street East) and Purity Dairy (located on 16th Street West). Ice was cut from the rive during the winter and stored in large blocks for the summer. Both of these combined helped families make delicious ice cream. It became a real summer time treat during this time. Local café’s and confectionaries began to sell ice cream in various forms – Sundaes, milk shakes, floats, cones, etc.
A favourite spot was the Quarter Moon at 615 Branion Drive. What was your favourite spot to get ice cream? What's your favourite flavour?

Summer Treat # 6 - A slower kind of life with a picnic. 🥧
Sunshine, good friends and a picnic seems to be the theme for these folks, whether it was a small family, a work group, or the whole community. They went on foot, by car, by wagon and even by boat. Why does a picnic always taste so good?
There was nothing to distract you from playing games, visiting and napping.
Do you remember school picnics, church picnics or a quick little snack with your siblings?

Summer Treat #5 - Parades! 🥰 I love a good parade! Parades in Prince Albert stem from the city's agricultural and cultural heritage. The first Summer Fair parade dates back to 1883 with the inception of the Lorne Agricultural & Industrial Society. This important event was kicked off each summer with a grand parade, featuring floats from local retail stores and interest groups, as well as individuals. Circus and Fair Trains would pull into Prince Albert, stirring up excitement with their daily parades promoting afternoon and evening shows. The PAEX Parade still draws people in by the thousands to the downtown area. There have been other parades that have drawn an appreciative crowd, such as the Winter Festival Parade, the Santa Claus Day Parade, High School Homecoming Parades, School Children’s Parades, Pow-Wow Parades, and more recently, Pride Parades. What do you love to see in a parade? My favorite is always the Pipe & Drum Band. See you at the parade - August 4th!
