Art Lab Studios & Gallery Current Resident Members are Michael Fuller, Jill Langford, Krista Levy Odlin, and Krista Wells. Langford’s beautiful and lyrical work is inspired by the sea.

Art Lab is a co-operative studio & gallery where the public can watch artists work, purchase original pieces, take a course from world-class instructors, or just hang out in the creative environment. The goal of Art Lab is fourfold: to provide working studios for a group of artists in a supportive and collaborative atmosphere; to provide retail opportunities for those artists; to create a vibrant

and welcoming venue for anyone interested in learning various art and craft forms through workshops, demonstrations, weekly classes and general interaction with working artists; to establish an exhibition space for work by guest artists. Each member brings his or her individual esthetic and talents to create an exciting mix of work. Fuller has been painting for years, but only recently scaled down from theatre set painting to canvas. Still exploring styles and subject matter, he paints everything from dramatic skies to sensitive portraits. She layers strong, transparent colours of ink to explore pattern and texture, myth and magic. A trained costume designer, Levy Odlin makes magic with fabric, beads, buttons, and anything else that sparks her imagination. Art for the wall, jewellery, home decor ... anything is possible. Wells describes herself as a storyteller, no matter what she is creating. She paints, illustrates, sculpts, creates mosaics and jewellery, and she recently published Dog-eared Journals, art and observation from a dog’s point of view.

Guess what! Art Lab (the sequel) is opening Friday, May 1st at 11 a.m. There’s been lots of curiosity about what’s been happening in the building over the past few months. Now’s your chance to come and investigate! BIG CHANGES with major renovations resulting in a division of the Art Lab space, creating a rental unit for our new creative neighbour, The Crow’s Nest! It’s a retail store for the many excellent and up-and-coming artists, crafters, and artisans within our radial community. It's the brain child of biz partners Amanda Sheehan and Kevin Wood. The Crow’s Nest with have regular hours. Check their page ’sNest for details.

As for Art Lab itself, in December, as a group, we disbanded the original make up of Art Lab in favour of going to our own studios and getting away from the daily retail commitment of what Art Lab had become. It was not a light decision, especially given the wonderful community of supporters we'd been privileged to serve, and the value it had for the community. We were all terribly wrenched by the inevitable closing of the art school. We'd made so many good friends with the instructors and their students and we'll miss them terribly.

Michael Fuller and Krista Wells are maintaining their studios within Art Lab but there is now a completely different look, with one large gallery room for their work and for presentation of special programming: pop-up musical, theatrical, art related, and writing moments. There is still a quality selection of art supplies (including new sketching materials). The studios are in room two at the back of the building and there is a beautiful new hospitality space and storage spaces.
