This week's colour is Violet which means we're pulling out this gorgeous specimen of Amethyst from collections! (This beauty most likely comes from Amethyst Cove, NS but we're still working on uploading specimens into the Provincial database 🤖)

Did you know? Amethyst gets it colour from trace amounts of Iron (Fe3+) in the crystal structure that has been exposed to Gamma Radiation... which begs the question- should the Hulk be purple instead of green? ☢ (Don't worry folks, we're aware of the Happy Hogan/Norman Osborne Hulks)

This week's prompt for the Nova Scotia Museum is and we're taking the opportunity to feature the critters that make our museum staff happy 🐈🐕🐎*

*The horse, Rick, isn't actually one of ours (he's from the lovely Spirit Reins Ranch) but he's on every Fossils on Horseback ride so we consider him an honorary 😉

Share your critters with us, we love seeing the animals that bring folks joy!

This mineral may be called sodalite but we wouldn't recommend trying to drink it 😉

This week's colour is Indigo which means we're pulling out this gorgeous specimen of Sodalite from collections! While Sodalite is often associated with the blueish colours shown here, the mineral also naturally occurs in grey, purple, and even transparent/clear!
