☎️ Do you miss the days of the rotary phone?

First patented by inventor Almon Brown Strowger in 1891, rotary phones were a common sight in homes and businesses for much of the early 1900s before push-button phones replaced them in the 1980s and 1990s.

Many students who visit the Museum of Dufferin are fascinated by this piece of technology and often can't believe people once dialed numbers by turning a wheel!

The rotary phone pictured here was used by the Corn Flower Glass Company, founded by Amaranth Township's W.J. Hughes, connecting local businesses long before the digital age.

What is now known as Dufferin County resides on the ancestral lands of the Tionontati (Pétun), Attawandaron (Neutral) Haudenosaunee (Six Nations), and Anishinaabe peoples. At the MoD you can learn more about the traditional territories and treaties connected to this region and view rare Indigenous artifacts that are currently undergoing research.

Next Sunday, June 21st is National Indigenous Peoples Day in Canada. 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of the celebration, which coincides with the summer solstice. It is a nationwide day of recognition for the cultures, traditions, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.

⚽🌎 The World Cup may bring people together today as Team Canada hits the field, but Orangeville had its own championship football heroes more than 125 years ago! 🌎⚽

As fans around the globe celebrate the excitement of FIFA World Cup competition, we're looking back at the Orangeville High School Championship Football Team of 1899.

Proudly posed with their championship trophy and football marked "O.H.S. '99", these young athletes represented Orangeville at a time when the sport was still growing in Canada.
P.S. They're still waiting for their FIFA ranking. ⚽🏆

"Flower Power" by Reed Cooper, 1968

Reed Cooper, a talented artist and long-time resident of Mulmur Township, made a lasting mark on both the local and national art scenes. After a successful early career in Toronto and exhibitions across Canada, Reed retired to Mulmur, where his studio, Arielcroft, became a hub for local art. His watercolours, serigraphs, and prints were inspired by the landscapes of Dufferin County, Northern Ontario, and beyond.

In Mulmur, Reed actively shared his work through solo exhibitions, group shows, and annual studio tours, leaving a legacy celebrated by the community. Today, the Reed T. Cooper Bursary in Visual Arts continues to support mid-career local artists, keeping his passion for creativity alive in Dufferin County.
